Thanks for all the responses. Definitely still torn, but we'll just have to see if he even wins it first! I guess we can always make a decision last minute depending on this little girl's temperament once she arrives.

We flew with our guy when he was 5 weeks from Dallas to Alaska. I kept him in the carrier the entire time and he was more than fine. Keep him covered, though. Flu season is being nasty to the littles this year.

The first time I flew with dd she was four months...and she DID NOT sleep well or most of the way. At four weeks she was starting to get fussy and in her particular case would have probably had meltdown after meltdown (like she did at home) on the plane/trip. I think it depends on what kind of baby you end up having... I don't think germs would be that huge of an issue since a four week old wouldn't be touching that many things. Just carry wet ones and wash/wipe your hands often enough.

I flew solo 7+ hrs with my 7 week old (and flew back when she was 10 weeks)... It was easy peasy... She slept most of the way. I was worried about germs but just was really careful to wash my hands a lot and keep her face protected. I'd also had the flu shot and pertussis vaccines during pregnancy and was breastfeeding, so I felt that that would confer her some immunity.

I'd go! Four weeks old is such an easy age to travel with! And if you keep the baby in the K'tan, I'd say you'll be fine. If you're BF'ing, the baby will get some immunity from you, and I recall reading an article not too long ago that the air on planes is actually cleaner than the air in most public places as it's filtered etc. Regardless, I would go and not worry about it!

When my #2 was 5 weeks old, I flew across the country on my own with her...honestly, germs never crossed my mind (though I was going for a funeral, so there were other things at play!). Honestly, it was the easiest flight I have ever done with a kid in tow! Just like carrying another backpack :P

I'd go! Then again, pretty sure I'm moving across country with a 4 week old...yikes!

I am pregnant with LO2 and have a repeat c section scheduled for March 28. DH is most likely going to win a trip to Miami via work (he's in sales) for last weekend of April so LO will be 4 weeks old. It would mean a 2.5 hour direct flight with a newborn and staying at a nice resort for 3 nights. I'm not worried about my recovery from the c section as I was good to go within a couple of weeks last time. I am worried about flying with a newborn (exposure to germs more than stress) and if I'd even be able to enjoy myself once there. I would plan on wearing her in my k'tan the whole airport/flight time and will be breastfeeding. We cannot reschedule the trip. We would leave our toddler with his grandparents. What do you think? Would you go??
