Like PPs have said,, the key is to follow others' blogs and comment on them. Also, if you are on twitter, it helps! Because you can start following people on twitter (who will in turn follow you) and then post your blog posts on there as you write them. It takes time and sometimes it can be a downer, but these things help. Also, the more you blog, the more people will notice. Another good thing is to make sure you categorize your posts and add tags to your posts.

@navy_mommy: I forgot about the Google search leads. That's a great piece of advice!

Like others have said, the more active you are on other blogs the more likely people are to come to yours. And I know I'm, personally, more likely to notice/follow a blogger who leaves meaningful comments on my blog (not just a generic, "OMG, how funny!" know what I mean?)

Also, I'm not sure how old you are, but there's a site 20sb.net which is specifically for bloggers in their 20s. There are groups you can join that are for specific types of bloggers (I'm part of the pregnancy bloggers group and the military wives group, for example) where you can share links to posts that would appeal to members of that group AND its a great way to find other blogs to follow!

And finally, have MEANINGFUL names of the photos you use. I get a lot of blog traffic from people google image searching and finding pictures from my blog (especially on my DIY posts).

Hope that helps!

For me, networking and being active on other blogs has been key. I put profiles up on a number of expat forums and have made connections that way. It takes awhile to build a following, so don't be discouraged and keep at it! It's only been a week. :) People have to know that your blog is consistently interesting and worth reading and that takes time.
As other's said you might have people following you that you don't know about. I've got people who follow through google, through reader, and those who just visit every day. It's hard to know how many loyal readers you really have.
I've read that most bloggers have a similar number of readers as the number of blogs they read. And they have as many commenters as comments they leave on other's blogs.

Commenting on other's blogs is the key. Also, in terms of followers, you should be looking at "stats" instead. I don't "follow" a lot of blogs but I do read them each day and that would show up under their page stats. I have only about 50-60 hits a day on my blog but I only have 4 followers. Also, if someone subscribes to your blog via email that wouldn't be a follower either.

I think we need monthly instead of bi-monthly "Share your blogs" threads, so people notice them more. I had to search through dozens of pages to find the Nov/Dec one, and I couldn't even find it through search.
After all, I very much like reading all of your blogs and followed practically all the blogspot ones from the thread.

I'm curious to see answers on this post. I've wondered the same thing. I started mine when we found out we were expecting, so around august of this year. And I have 2 followers. :( It is hard when you feel like you're writing to no one, but I try to keep in mind that it's a good way to document the pregnancy, and clear my mind. So it's more for me than anyone else. :)

By reading and commenting on the blogs of others in similar positions. The more active you become in blogging communities, the more people will trackback to read your blog especially if your comments are witty and/or insightful.

I didn't have any followers for a long time either, and I still don't have a ton. It is hard to keep writing with no followers! I got mine by telling my family about it, who told their friends. Also, when we get to share our blog on here, I've picked a couple up :)

I started my baby blog (which is currently in the pre-ttc stage) about a week ago, and I still don't have a single follower. :(
I know, it's only been a week, but it's making me sad. It's a little hard to keep writing everyday when you don't even know if anyone is reading it.
How do you guys start getting followers in the first place? I read and follow a lot of your blogs, and you seem to all have plenty of readers.
Is there maybe something I should be doing to get it out there, and if so... what?
