@ustechie: he is now 26 months old. He had it rough until we did allergy testing at 18 months where we confirmed soy. It is his only allergy/intollerance now. Since we dropped soy, he has gained weight like crazy and is a different kid.

He is thriving on dairy and doing so well. He does tolerate soybean oil and soy lecithin thankfully. We don't plan to trial soy again. When he turns 3 we will do allergy testing again and trial only of he doesn't react.

@brownie: thanks for the advice! it's so scary- you know you need to make progress with their diets, but you also don't want them to hurt like they did before!

i'm going to start with soy oil first, giving it to him, and VERY SLOWLY increasing the amount. i can't imagine how scared i'm going to be with diary (assuming soy goes well).

does your son have any other food sensitivities? how old is he and how's he doing?

This is one of the scariest things you will do as a mother. I remember every time we would trial something. My son was unusual and reacted more to soy than dairy. So we had many set backs. So I would recommend offering only one of those things and wait over a week before offering a new thing. My sons symptoms didn't come back for 3 days. I would definitely feed it to him because then at least your milk is clean. If I were to do it over again, I would offer him something and wait 24 hours to see if there was an immediate reaction. Then for the next 2 days I would feed him more of it to see if there was a volume reaction. Then after a week or two I would trial something new. But I am over cautious because of his experience.

As far as what to start with, start with whatever will make your life easier. We did Soy Lecithin early because we needed to be able to buy fake butter and other foods that had it in there. If you really need yogurt, do that (those probiotics are wonderful things).

My son is 15 months and was diagnosed with MSPI at 4 months. I'm still breastfeeding, so I've eliminated soy and diary from my diet as well. Our pediatrician recommended we try both dairy and soy with him. Needless to say I'm scared, but I know we need to try to know for sure.

Any advice on what to introduce first? I've read soybean oil/lecithin is a good start, and yogurt or butter (cooked in something) for dairy. Should I eat the soy/dairy or give it to him? Any advice on what/how to approach? What should I be looking for if he would have a reaction? He has mild eczema, but it's controlled well. Also, it seems that he doesn't tolerate eggs.
