@periwinklebee: @gotkimchi: @cake2017: @bhbee: Thanks for the comments, all. I did end up chatting with the dr on call and she said I can keep pumping. I have been VERY careful with the bottles and to keep everything clean, as though I can't pass it to him via the milk, I could if the germ was on my skin and he somehow got in contact with it. I even wore plastic gloves the night I was really sick and feverish.

oh no... LO's been puking all morning, and we did have an avocado salad with lettuce earlier in the week... this is super good to know about. I know the odds are low probably that it is e coli and not a standard stomach bug but I will definitely be calling my doctor now if I get it since I'm pregnant and the internet is scaring me about e coli during pregnancy  . Thanks for the heads up, and I really hope you feel better soon. I would definitely ask the ped nurse's line about bf, just to be safe...

Kelly mom says breastfeeding during food poisoning should be ok - but I’d definitely wash/sanitize your hands carefully before pumping and handling bottles. Good luck!

Sounds like it. We threw out all of our lettuce. I’d just call pediatrician or doc to see if it’s best .... I would be worried

Last Friday, my husband and I ate romaine salad with dinner at home. On Tuesday, he got sick. It came on suddenly and was feverish with awful painful cramps. He never threw up or had diarrhea. It lasted about 12 hours. Fast forward to today. I felt nauseated at 6 am while prepping bottles. I vomited at noon. It came out of nowhere with only about a second of notice. I’ve had a 100* fever tonight. Tonight we saw that romaine from Salinas, CA, has been recalled for E. coli. Ours is from Salinas. Could that be what we have? Is it safe for me to keep pumping? (I’m EPing.)

@TurtleDoves: Yes, should add that LO also slept horribly in addition, so that could also have to do with the dip. I may run out tonight and get fenugreek and tea :-)

I can't thank you all enough for the advice. I'm already not quite pumping enough during work hours for daycare so would like a boost generally anyway. Will definitely drink more water and get some of the items suggested. Thanks again!

Water will not give you an increase as long as you're drinking 64oz. per day. Drinking 200oz of water will not help you at all. Water does not equal milk.

It usually will take 3-4 to get your supply back, and you will need to do some extra pumping and feeding. The best way to help yourself is to power pump after LO goes to sleep. 10 minutes on 10 minutes off, for an hour or two.

As far as herbs fenugreek has the quickest reaction time.

I have low milk dips at times (not sure why), and taking fenugreek, drinking tons of water, eating healthy, lots of sleep, and trying not to stress about it helps. It takes me about 24-48 hours to bring my supply back up.

@brownie: Oh good one! I let my DD suckle as long as she wants and often times I"ll get several let downs! (I usually only get one or maybe 2). The extra stimulation/let downs definitely help speed up the milk production.

Also, take a little extra time with baby on the breast for stimulation. I loved weekends because I would be low by Friday but after a weekend with my baby I was full again Monday.

I saw immediate results with Fenugreek tablets. Go out and get them now and pop like 4 tonight....I think it's like 9 a day with food? And drink HEAPS of water.
I has a major dip this weekend from lack of sleep (thanks LO) and it pumped me right up:) I woke up engorged the morning after I took it.
I got it from the organic and health food section in my grocery store.

The last 2 days, I've been drinking tons of water and taking More Milk Plus capsules and I've already seen an increase! At least 1 oz on each side. Not bad for 2 days!

I was just going to say to make sure that your water intake is high. Also make sure you are eating a good meal. Both of these things will help improve your supply. I would also try the Mothers Milk tea.

I've been sick for a week and had a pretty drastic dip early on. Drinking a TON of water made the most difference. I also drank as much tea as I could. I could tell within 24-36 hours that it was almost back to normal.

So, this Sat. night I got "lucky" with an amazing run of food poisoning. Ack! So I know I wasn't hydrated properly from Sat. night through probably Sunday afternoon, even though I did try to drink what I could keep down.

Anyway, I thought I was better today, but when I pumped at work, I maybe got 1/3 of what I usually get. Anyone know how long it may take for my supply to increase again? (I hope it does!) And if I were to use something herbal to assist (mother's milk tea, more milk plus, etc.), what would have the best impact the fastest? I'm running out of frozen supply, and I'm going to have to use a lot of it for daycare tomorrow.

Thanks!
