@T.H.O.U.: I had to work up to that amount (from 75/25) and my daughter was pickier about the temp of the 50/50 bottles but she'd definitely take them. Even though they smelled awful to me she seemed to think they were fine.

She is also really picky about the temperature of food now as a toddler, though, so it may just be a quirk of hers.

Good luck!

@newlypregnantlady: a 50:50 ratio would be awesome.

Ideally If I can pump about 10 ounces a day then hopefully I can top it off with up to 5 extra ounces.

@MrsSCB: sadly I'm pumping and sending to daycare the next day and in that overnight period (up to 24 hrs later) the milk tastes bad. So it has to be scalded unless I were to somehow drop it off at daycare the same day I pump it.

I mixed frozen lipase milk with fresh pumped to dilute the taste a little and both kids took it well. I also tried to stop freezing as much as possible and used as much fresh as possible.

I was going to suggest what @mrswin: said -- could you mix what you pump with the frozen, and maybe that will dilute it enough to taste better to her? So you don't have to go through the work of scalding.

@T.H.O.U.: We were able to mix it with fresh milk, about a 25% frozen 75% fresh ratio. I was sooo sad when we realized why she was refusing since I had a ton in the freezer at that point.

My first son didn't drink the lipase milk as well (but he wasn't a great eater anyways) so I tended to mix it. My second son had no trouble with frozen milk with excess lipase in it - he pounded bottles of whatever the heck you gave him :)

I had high lipase and I couldn't get DS to drink the frozen stash I had before I realized it. Thankfully, I had a high supply and was able to pump what he needed fresh until he was 14 months old. I ended up donating it to a mama whose baby didn't mind the taste. I hadn't heard of the vanilla trick though!

I didn't have this issue myself but I have heard of several moms who have had success adding a drop or two of non-alcoholic vanilla extract to high lipase milk to get baby to drink it.

Obviously makes sense to try mixing fresh & frozen first, but might be worth a try if it doesn't work.

I have over 200 oz in my freezer that I stored before we realized my milk probably had lipase. She originally took a bottle very young so I started pumping and freezing. Then at 3.5 months we reintroduced the bottle and she wouldn't take it. After 3 weeks of refusal we scalded the milk and now at daycare she's taking it fine.

I'm hoping there is still hope I can use this freezer stash! I'm already barely pumping 12 oz and she probably needs at least that, if not more like 15-16oz. I'm going to start by trying to do a 3:1 ratio of scalded vs frozen to see if we can dilute it enough that she would still drink it. If you tried this, what was the ratio you went with? Were you ever able to get to fully using the frozen lipase milk from a bottle? I know I can save it for solids but we want to do as much BLW as possible so there wont be much opportunity for mixing with purees.

@Arden: has fine points about the pros and cons of chest vs upright freezer. I'm a fan of frost-free freezers, but those can be slightly more expensive. You won't have to deal with frost ever building up!

One thing you want in a deep freezer is a manual defrost, not automatic.
When you have automatic, this is how it works - it heats up the freezer walls every once in a while to melt off the ice, than refreezes before the food melts. The problem is that each time that happens, your food melts around the outside a little bit.

After a couple of times of this, you've got some serious freezer burn, and your food won't last as long in general.

Chest/Upright each have their pros and cons. An upright freezer is much easier to find things in, but it's easy to leave the door slightly ajar and melt things. With a chest, that won't happen, but it can sometimes feel like a bottomless abyss when you're trying to find an item.

We are thinking of looking for a deep freezer. My husband is always complaining of not having enough freezer space. I would like to shop more with coupons and sales and freeze food and make up meals ahead that just don't fit in our freezer.

I have heard the chest freezers are best because they hold the cool better (freezer will be in the garage and have to stay through the Florida heat). However, we currently have a french door fridge/freezer in the house and the freezer is kinda like a chest and I don't really like it. For example, freezing trays of fruit for the baby or casserole dishes is hard because there isn't shelf space.

I think I also want energy star rated so it does add a bunch to our electric bill.

Any other features or even better a link to the one you have?!

Thanks again, everyone, for the suggestions! Yesterday I made a meat lasagne, had some for dinner, then cut it up and froze it in baggies in portions. She does a lot of freezing marinated meat so you just have to dump in the crockpot or reheat individual servings of things like breakfast burritos or ham and cheese pockets.

I second the pesto vote. It's one of the few things I actually will freeze and then use. (We end up wasting a lot of what we freeze.) It's pretty simple to make on your own if you have a food processor and I freeze in small containers that are prefect for one time use.

My only plan so far for meals is to make a huge sauce and freeze smaller containers. I will also be making meatballs and sausage to go with the sauce, but freeze those individually as well. This will allow us to easily have pasta or sandwiches if we want to. I may throw a small lasagna in there too. Otherwise DH and I spoke about it and he knows he is going to have to take the lead with meal planning/prep for a while and he's comfortable with that.

I love cooking from my freezer and I'm not even close to delivering this baby :)
But I already am making a little list of meals or components we make regularly that I plan to stash come this October so that we're ready to go. I also second Cole's suggeston of freezing meal components for things you like that aren't great frozen all prepared. Casseroles get old and if you're delivering in a couple weeks, it's already most likely pretty hot outside!

Meatballs - Prepare and cook, then freeze on a tray and put in a big ziploc. They're great for spaghetti (just boil pasta and heat the frozen meatballs in sauce while it cooks) or meatball sandwiches. You can go a different route and make an asian sauce with soy and hoisin to serve them over rice with some veggies (also frozen).
Chili - Prepare and portion into a ziploc bag and lay flat on a tray to freeze. Then stack in the freezer and thaw overnight before heating it up. Make it however you like it, mine always has black beans and corn.
Waffles and Pancakes - Prepare, cook, and freeze stacked in a ziploc with a piece of wax paper between each one. Toast them up and you've got breakfast for dinner.
Ziti - Same flavors as your favorite lasagna recipes but not as time consuming to prepare ahead of time.
Cooked Rice - Nice to have on hand for meals in general and I do this when I can. Cook, cool and put in a ziploc, flatten and freeze on a tray. Then stack in the freezer and microwave it when you want to use it. Great for a side with veggies (frozen) and a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store.

I love doing calzones in the freezer, I will make a huge batch of dough and do a bunch of different ones so we at least have some variety. I freeze them before cooking and just throw them in the oven frozen, it only takes a few minutes longer than fresh.

You could do frittatas, burritos (breakfast ones or regular) or soups/ chili. I also like freezing individual components of things like shredded cheese, taco meat (cooked), tortillas, turkey burgers, hamburger buns and so on. It is amazing how sometimes the simple act of shredding some cheese is enough to send you to the phone for take out so having it on hand makes life a lot easier!
