I haven't done it but I was under the impression that you would end up with extras of the seasonings for the most part so even though you spent X on the kit you would be able to make the meals again, is that not right? I have thought about doing it but the timing hasn't been right when there's been a workshop nearby.

@caterw: My husband thought the same thing, that it was really expensive for spices and sauces. I ordered one kit to make the 10 freezer meals. You are required to keep buying so I would like to see how much it ends up costing after I buy the meat and produce. I just like the convenience of the recipes and seasons and being able to make 10 meals in 2 hours. I know if I searched it out on its own it would never happen. We have done blue apron off and on over the years so I'm curious how it ends up comparing.

I haven't, but one of my coworkers sells it and the pictures she posts on Facebook always look really good. She hosts freezer workshops at her house where everyone preps freezer meals together which seems like it could be a lot of fun. I'm tempted to try it, except my husband is normally the one who cooks in our house.

Ok so I love meal prep services so I had to go to their website to check it out... Their recipes look SUPER good for the fresh meal bundle but I think that $60 for some recipes and spices is way too expensive! I could probably find all of those recipes on Pinterest and bulk buy the spices I need from Penzeys. I guess it could be more affordable than Blue Apron since you can shop sales at your store and make swaps based on that but then you aren't saving time either. I kinda don't get the point of this.

I came across a post in a local FB moms group about using Wildtree to make freezer meals. From their website it looks like it includes the seasonings and sauces and then you purchase the meat and produce your self. I have always wanted to meal plan and meal prep and always fail so I am intrigued by this.

Ive done other services like blue apron but its never lasts because of all the prep work so this is more appealing. If you have used this did you like it? Its supposed to be more affordable than blue apron but after you buy your own meat and product is it reallY? Any insight would be great!

@mrs.shinerbock: not a specific recipe but in general, if you are cooking something a long time avoid sugary sauces like BBQ sauce- the sugar burns (I found this out the hard way). And the more you fill the pot the more leeway you have.

@Apples4Teacher: I have used frozen chicken breasts. Honestly it probably is a small risk that they are at an unsafe temp for too long.... But I've done it a lot and never gotten sick.

@mrs.shinerbock: I did a stew the other day. It was sooo good. I forgot the potatoes, so I don't know how they would do in a crockpot. It wasn't a crockpot recipe so I adapted it. Just dredged and browned the meat first then dumped everything in and set it to low. I put in a few cups less broth.

http://thepioneerwoman.com/cooking/2011/01/beef-stew-with-beer-and-paprika/

I bet the bbq ones work well. Anything that had to cook low and slow anyway. Avoid chicken though. That will just dry out.

Do you have a cooker that converts to warm after so many hours? That helps.

@jedeve: I couldn't find the salsa chicken here (I'm on my phone, which makes it so much harder to read!), so maybe it was already suggested, but I make a salsa chicken recipe where I shred the chicken and then serve it in crunchy taco shells with shredded lettuce, cheese, sour cream, etc.

Great idea for a thread! Following

When I was on Weight Watchers, I adapted this baked potato soup from food.com (I copy and pasted my original, so all WW points are still here) It makes lots of leftovers, so I always have them for lunch!

Serving Size: 1 cup (4 points) or 2 cups (8 points)
Yield: 12 1-cup servings or 6 2-cup servings

6 medium golden potatoes, peeled and diced
1 large onion, chopped
1 quart chicken broth (or 1 quart water + 2 extra large bullion cubes)
3 garlic cloves
1/4 cup butter
1 cup fat free half and half
1 cup low fat shredded cheddar cheese

Add the potatoes, onion, chicken broth, garlic cloves and butter to the slow cooker. Cook on high for 4 hours.

After 4 hours, mash the potatoes using a potato masher. Add the half and half and cheese to the potatoes remaining in the slow cooker. Blend with an immersion blender.

Top with any of the following (some will add Weight Watchers points)
scallions (add 0 points)
fat free sour cream (2 Tbsp, add 1 point)
low fat shredded cheddar cheese (2 Tbsp, add 1 point)
a strip of bacon, crumbled (add 1 point)
carmelized onions (add 0 points)

@Apples4Teacher: hmmm... I've never done it so I'm not sure. I guess my concern would be that the time between taking them out and them reaching a high enough temp to kill bacteria might take too long, but I can be a nut about that stuff :D

I love this recipe for balsamic chicken! It's pretty healthy (though we serve it with egg noodles usually) and the leftovers freeze well:
