@QBbride: Cool. I also heard some mamas use it as a pregnancy support belt and pp support belt but I never tried it (bought when DS was already here).

@pastemoo: thanks soo much for all your help! Last night I kept dreaming that they sold out of the Tahoe, I was so sad! So I took the plunge and bought it today!!! I got a 4.2m (size 5 i think?) I'm not sure if it's a twill or diamond weave, but oh well! I can't wait to get it. I still have awhile before babe arrives though!

@QBbride: I LOVE Tahoe! Yes it is gender neutral. also the wrap is as much for mama as for baby so it doesn't matter much.
On the baby wearer you will see a lot of mamas prefer their diamond weave over their twill... it is all personal preference.
If you get a 5 and can't do a double hammock because it is a little short you can still do MANY MANY wraps. I think I could easily have gotten a 4 as my one and only wrap and not felt like I was missing anything.

@pastemoo: hi! Thanks soo much for all your advice! Now I really want a girasol wrap. It's not too hot or humid here, so I think I'd be OK.

Here is one I've been eyeing:
http://www.wearababy.com/shop/girasol-wraps/product/40-freshness . It's twill weave (you like your twill weave best, right?)

I'm 5'2", 130 lbs pre-preg. So not tiny but maybe on the higher end of average. I don't know of any baby wearing groups around here, although there must be some. I just don't want super long tails because I feel like they'd be annoying for walking around etc.

I registered for thebabywearer but I need to wait for approval before I can see what's for sale.

@QBbride: I am a base size 5. can you check out a local babywearing group in your area and borrow a wrap to see what size you like?
As a base size 5, anything bigger just gives me huge long tails. I can do most but not all wrap styles with a sz 4. I want a size 2 and size 3 for some hip carries and some simple front and back carries. Initially you will take more fabric to wrap and as you get better you will need less fabric to do the same wraps (by a little) and you may want a shorter wrap.

I am 5'0 and 108 lbs (and stacked)
My best wrapping buddy is 5'7 or 5'8 and thin but stacked and is a base size 6 but can also do almost everything on a 5.

If you are petite you are most likely a 5 (4.2m long).

Other brands make thinner wraps (didymos, oscha, natibaby, vatanai) but also cost a LOT more.
Check out thebabywearer.com for buying them used (not much different pricing than retail but nothing is "pending restocking.")

Otherplaces to buy wraps
paxbaby, abbyslane, birdiesroom and many many more

@QBbride: It does if you wrap with multiple passes. I would wear it wrapped double hammock with no shirt when it was hot.
How hot/humid it is where you live?
I think some guaze wraps or bali breeze or some others are best for *very* hot weather. Thing is... I mostly wear the wrap at home or for long outings in museums or a walk around the neighborhood. Mostly I am indoors in relatively climate controlled areas when I wrap.

In the winter he stays nicely warm wrapped with several passes so it doesn't matter when he takes off his hat with snow on the ground.

Thanks everyone! It just seems like a lot if money when you don't know if your babe will love baby wearing.

@pastemoo: my babe will be born at the end of June, does the girasol get really hot?

Did you order it online? If so, what website? How do you know what size you are? (I'm short!) Thanks!

ETA: They don't make blends in Gira--only 100% cotton. They have the best colorways of any brand (in my opinion) but I do plan to get a didymos or oscha wrap eventually.
Resale value of woven wraps is almost the same as what you got it for--so if you don't love it you can trade it or sell it.

@QBbride: I have a diamond weave and a twill weave and I love them both! My base size is a 5. I unfortunately got both in a 5. I should have gotten a 5 and then a smaller one for being out and about.
It is great for going out on the town and not worrying about LOs nap schedule--he will nap in there with no issues so I can spend all day out of the house. The next day he will go right back to his regular schedule.
I discovered wraps at 6 months, he is almost 8 months now. He was 13 pounds within 2 months so the Moby would have been very short lived for us--but I didn't have one. He is 21 or 22 pounds now.

One day, I hope to also get a different brand that has linen or silk or hemp or bamboo--but I am never giving up my twill weave Gira. :) I may trade out the diamond weave (rainbow) one for a different wrap. @Weagle: OR I may chop my DW for a WCRS and a shorty wrap. :)

Giras are sooooo soft and awesome, and yet supportive. DS now plays peekaboo with it if he is sitting on the floor with it.

WELL worth the money!

I think if you want to use a wrap, it's worth it to invest in a woven wrap. I don't have one, but I'm considering trading in my RS for either a wrap or a WCRS.

Does anyone have a Girasol wrap? They're so expensive but they look really nice and I think it would be really functional! I like the idea that it's a woven wrap so not stretchy... I've been thinking about the moby but I've heard it's so stretchy that you can't use it for long.

Thoughts? TIA!

@Mrs. Jacks: Oh. Is it stretchy?
We have a soft structured carrier, too (Beco Gemini) but my friend has an orange and a blue Girasol. She let me borrow the blue one and I LOOOOOOOVE it!
The Ergo is definitely convenient for a bigger baby and we already have a carrier (Beco), so this woven wrap is really just an extra thing that I don't need and just want.

@sarac: You're not really supposed to use a stretchy wrap past 15lbs. After your child is that heavy, the wrap loosens too much and it isn't considered secure.

My friend lent me her Girasol and I totally love it! I want to buy a woven carrier (or make one if that's possible). Do you use a wrap? How many ways do you wear your baby? How is the learning curve? How long of a wrap did you get? (and how tall are you--does it make a difference in how long your wrap needed to be?)

What brand of wrap do you use?
