I'm a big fan of coconut oil from the nasty food reaction type diaper rashes so far. I feel like the organic, cold pressed variety works faster for my little guy. Slather up that butt, be generous with it. I feel your pain.

@MrsRcCar: when my guy was tiny, he had an awful acid burn diaper rash. Our doc suggested mylanta on a cotton ball and using cotton balls for the wiping. It really helped neutralize things.

@hellobeeboston: we both got glutened him just way worse then me. :( He is still drinking so we just have to wait it out.

@meesker: those all sound like great options expect the diaper free time. He doesn't like to not be covered. He says it hurts.

When my daughter has had bad reactions to food, she has had nonstop mucus diarrhea and her butt also looked like acid burn. Changing her was causing her so much pain, but we had to do it to stop things from getting worse, yah know?

So what we did, that worked, and may work for you, is every time she pooed, I took her to the bathroom, took her diaper off standing up, put her in the tub (standing up) and used the sprayer attachment and warm water to get the poo off her bum. Then, if she would tolerate, I would use my hand and water and a very gentle cleanser (no washcloth) to rub any residue off and rinsed with the sprayer. Then after everything was sprayed down the drain, I would fill the tub with a few inches water to let her squat and soak and play. After a few minutes, we got out and did 10-30 minutes diaper free time before putting the diaper and a ton of butt paste on her bottom. We did this until the diarrhea and the skin was healed. It felt like we spent a week doing nothing but baths, but it did work and it made changes as painless as possible for her while she healed. Pee changes were just a diaper swap, extra butt paste, no wiping so no abrasion.

@MrsRcCar: ugh. I HATE when I get glutened. If you know for sure that's what it was I think you just need to wait it out a bit :( bland plain food, lots of water, rest. Maybe some pain reliever to help if he has a tummy ache?

Poor baby. If he is drinking, I wouldn't worry about food too much. Try a clear liquid diet. For diaper free time, we do prefolds.

@Foodnerd81: I talked to his doctor yesterday. The rash and such weren't as bad yesterday. I am not sure what the doctor would recommend we have just started with him. We are slotted to see the doctor tomorrow plus blood work. That's already going to be hard. :crying:
I just feel so helpless. Nothing is helping and N refuses to be diaper free right now. Our new doctor has been so wonderful this far. I would like it to stay that way.

I would call his doctor today. He sounds miserable. Is the doctor likely to send him to the ER for every little thing?

Sorry the poor guy is going through this.

N has been miserable since yesterday morning. Friday night at dinner he was accidentally "glutened" while we were out to eat. We are generally extremely cautious, I feel terrible about it. Fast forward to today he is screaming and writhing in pain with every single diaper change. It looks like an acid burn on his bottom and his tummy is swollen. He has wicked runny butt we are talking loads more diapers. He has zero interest in eating but is drinking like crazy.

What do you do? Wait until tomorrow to see the ped? Take to the children's hospital today? It takes two people to change him and he just shakes and screams the whole time. I feel terrible.

ETA: we do have the ped's private cell phone number, I just hate to bother him...
