Since she was struggling to stay on task and finish her work every day, my mom promised her an "extra special treat" if she could finish all of her work for one week straight. Her prize? But my older brother got deans list every single time, so by the time I was old enough to reap the benefits they were done with that or they'd have gone broke! When I was in college my grandma gave me a gold necklace for getting into the honors society. </p> <p>We haven't discussed what we'll do yet. For a while we got $20 for As, $5 for Bs, and we were promised something extra special for straight As. It was hard because we weren't always given what we were promised. I still don't know what we are going to do, but I hope LO wants good grades for himself since that was really why DH and I always tried to do well in school. At first it was straight As for a quarter, then for a semester, then for the year. I finally got my incentive, but I never wanted another incentive again since it was so frustrating.</p> <p>No incentives in our family. If I remember right, it started in junior high with $3/A and $1/B and bumped to $5/A and $3/B in high school. We got report cards every six weeks, so I think it came out to about $5/week if you got straight A's in HS. My step dad tried I implement a monetary reward system when I was in high school to encourage my younger brothers to do better. I think it was something like $15 for As, $10 for Bs, $5 for Cs. No. Good grades were expected to be the norm so they were not rewarded. My parents would tell us "good job.. we're proud of you" and things like that... but we didn't get rewards. More like we got in trouble if we got bad grades. My parents thought that put unnecessary pressure on us, as long as we gave it our best they were happy.
