Medium crunchy? I never thought of myself as crunchy, but I guess we do a lot of crunchy things.

- all natural cleaning products at home
- I rarely eat meat, and when I do it's chicken that is natural, free range, etc.
- reusable grocery bags
- cloth napkins and dishtowels at home
- recycle
- compost
- eat local, organic (we're CSA members)
- no plastic when possible
- our cars are old, and mine is very gas efficient. Plus we carpooled until very recently.
- we're hoping for a natural birth and to EBF
- planning to cloth diaper, baby wear, baby led wean

@miss-spunkin: Have you thought of vermicomposting? We live in a condo, and I vermicompost on our balcony.

We are semi crunchy. We are not very good at recycling here & not that it is an excuse, but unfortunately the area we live in isn't really up to the standards with it that most places are, which makes it difficult! We buy mostly organic & free range meats, we cloth diaper, we practice elimination communication, I make all of DDs baby food, I exclusively nurse, etc. I want to get better about switching to all green cleaning products.

We recycle, compost and like to grow veggies, you have to buy grocery bags here but we also use it as trash bags (we don't have much trash since we compost tons of it). DH takes the bus to work but he would walk if it was closer. I love antiques. We also love foraging for mushrooms and wild berries.

However, we're not vegetarians, we don't usually buy organic, and would rather buy online (on Amazon) rather than paying 4x more for a local alternative (if they even have it). The buying online isn't very green but we're expecting our first baby and all the savings outweighs the environmental factors. But we live in a very environmentally friendly place, they hardly use plastic for anything and everything is packaged very simply. The problem for me is there's limited amount of items available and to get what I want locally would mean to drive around town or commute 2.5 hours to the capital where I'd have to end up looking around some more since they don't always have a website. With the effort and energy of doing all that, buying on Amazon isn't so bad. The only alternative would be to live without and I'm not ready for that yet.

We are semi-crunchy. We have worms (compost) and feed them off and on, we cloth diaper, cloth wipe and EC, EBF, babywear, recycle and go to the Farmer's Market when it's convenient, reuse our plastic bags, line dry half of our clothes, made our own baby food, pre-registered for the Nissan Leaf but didn't get one, and bought glassware and threw out most of our tupperware. Most of our decisions are based on if it's COST-EFFECTIVE, first and foremost, then if it good for the earth and convenient for us we do it. We buy organic when it's on sale or if it looks really tasty. I just put up our mango from our tree on Craigslist and offered to swap them with other fruit lovers. That was a very crunchy thing to do. We'll see if I follow through.

I would say I'm a wanna be a crunchy mama. I grow some of my own vegetables (but not all) and when I buy from the store, I try to buy locally grown. I made all of my baby food from scratch, breastfed, co-slept/no CIO, carried the baby a lot, try to go as green as possible. BUT we have a gas-guzzling SUV and we don't always recycle as much as I'd like. And tried cloth diapering early on and gave up. And use some plastic stuff here and there (mostly trying to go with silicone or glass). So yeah, I'm a wanna be! lol

I had to google 'crunchy', too.

Living in Seattle has gotten me to be more crunchy than I used to be. I do try to think of the environment as much as I can but I'm practical about it. I still have a budget at home. If I had money, I would probably be more crunchy.

I am going to use cloth diapers. I recycle and compost as much as I can. (We see compost containers everywhere in Seattle. I wish I could have my own compost but we live in an apartment complex and not much space.) I started saving money and gas by taking the bus. I harp on my husband when he doesn't recycle.

I don’t think of myself as “crunchy” but….

We buy as much locally sourced food as possible to reduce the impact on the environment from importing foods (kills me to walk into Whole Foods in the middle of strawberry season and they only have organic strawberries shipped from CA, when there is a wonderful strawberry farm literally 5 miles or less down the road!!!!).

We used recyclable grocery bags, and recycle all of our plastic/glass/cardboard/etc. Last summer we saved our veggie scraps for a neighbor with a compost bin.

We use cloth dishtowels instead of paper towels, and cloth napkins instead of paper napkins.

I don’t buy any skincare products that have been tested on animals, and try to avoid those with animal by-products in them.

I do drive an SUV, but I drive less than 8k miles a year, and I buy carbon credits that offset my SUV’s carbon footprint so I don’t feel bad about that (plus, I live in Maine where it snows, a lot, so 4WD is very handy/necessary).

Let's see...
- We definitely recycle
- We try to buy our produce from the local farmers market, and we buy organic from the grocery store when possible
- We're planning on cloth diapering our baby
- We use some (but not all) natural cleaning products
- DH takes the train to work, and I was taking a vanpool until recently
- We're thinking of purchasing a plug-in hybrid for DH's next car (although my car is a small SUV w/ not great gas mileage)
...so yeah... pretty crunchy, but we still do plenty of non-crunchy things for convenience sake.

What is EBF?
Just googled "crunchy"...interesting.

I'm not all about "organic" after learning a bit about the process. I'm more concerned w/buying local and certified naturally grown than "organic". We try when we can to buy items that are at the very least in state. But it's not always possible.

I make our own laundry detergent and dishwasher powder. I hang dry when possible. SUPER excited to have a clothesline at the new house!

We use minimal variety of cleaning products and with the exception of bleach they are all green products.
We recycle pretty much everything.

Biking to work is not a possibility for us but I take the train daily.

We will be finally starting to compost at the new house. Grow our own veggies.
I save all old tshirts to use as rags but I think that's more being frugal than anything!

You just have to be careful not to get "Green Washed"!!!

@miss-spunkin:
They sell small indoor composters that are made to keep in smells! We registered for one but no one bought it for us! :(

@Ardently: I had planned a natural water birth too! Sadly some complications forced me to be induced, but I still went natural by not having any pain meds. I also babywear, and we co-sleep half the time (sometimes it's nice to get a break, so if he will sleep in his bed, we let him!), and I also plan to bf til 24 mos.
I want a garden! My parents do, and they have a pretty big one, so all summer we eat out of it ;)

@Mrsdaredevil: my parents compost! If we didn't live in a townhouse with no yard then we would too. Our car isn't exactly eco-friendly either. I really did want a prius, but we ended up with a ford fusion, so only about 25 mpg.

We are a work in progress but I've made a lot of changes the last few years!

My Public Issues class jump started me on living more green when I learned about how much of our plastic waste ends up in the oceans and how threatening it is to our oceans ecosystem. We started buying milk in cardboard containers and recycling them, then started buying milk straight from a local farm and using glass jars.
We buy off the dirty dozen list, use reusable grocery bags, recycle all plastic and paper packaging/waste.
We use cloth on our LO and EBF.
We just bought a bike for my husband so he can commute the 2.5 miles to work this summer.
We buy a lot of used or recycled items, shop at thrift stores, eat meat 1-2x a week, and only organic grass-fed meat and animal by-products.

We also use all-natural cleaning products and reuse all the bottles.

How about you?
