I see a therapist. I reccomended it. You may benefit from 1x1 time with a professional

ETA I see you have been before. Perhaps find a family therapist and just go by yourself?

Thank you everyone!

@runnerd: Thanks for this! I saw a "free online e-class and I registered for it. Let's see what it is about... unfortunately I don't think they have a group in my area.

@mrbee: Yes sleeping would help me too :( I used to work out regularly for more than half a year and I stopped recently. To be honest when I first started, I was even more irritated and less patience because I got 1/2 hour less of sleep... but it got better when I got used to it. I need to get back to it though (that's what I told myself :))

@Cole: You know, this morning I was thinking I am not sure I want to get into a professional parenting guidance group anymore because what if the other participants are in a worse situation than me? I need positivity instead of more bad energy from others. But your group actually sounds great! That's what I would love to have... a small cost and a group of other (normal-ish) parents that we can talk about issues...

@Mamaof2: Ahh... our insurance isnt great when it comes to mental health. But it is great for you! I have a therapist too, but since I am not making as much $$$ as I used to I didn't want to go anymore (and she wasn't super helpful anyway)

@irene: When DS was younger and we had some issues I saw a Behavioral Analyst (BA) - she only works with parents, not the kids, and works on any issues you are having with them - she was amazing! Covered by insurance so I only had to pay $15 each visit

I have a moms group and a sub group of us meet to chat about mindfulness in regards to parenting. It's not perfect, we could actually use a bit more guidance since sometimes it becomes venting with us all offering imperfect suggestions but it is really helpful. Maybe you could see if anyone else would be interested from a local parenting board? We actually split a speaker one month too, it was around $25 per person for about ten of us.

My son's former preschool had a program where they had monthly sessions with a child behaviour expert (I have to look up her exact title). They also had a monthly parents chat, but being a working mom, I didn't have the time to get there on a regular basis. Looking back, these were such valuable resources I should have leveraged as I believe the best information comes from other, more experienced mothers.

I wanted to throw out there that I've seen some programs in my area for "positive parenting" workshops - maybe search for something like that might be useful!

ETA: it was actually called "positive discipline" https://www.positivediscipline.com/events

@irene: The thing that has helped my patience the most is getting sleep ha. I keep wanting to exercise and meditate regularly too, but that hasn't happened yet and probably never will!

But if you feel you have zero tolerance, maybe there are some things worth talking to a therapist about? I bet it would really help!!

@mrbee: @Truth Bombs: Thank you - and mrbee I have read that post of yours more than 20 times lol. I have added the book in my amazon shopping cart and will get it the next time I check out. Just that I have a few of these and I just can't get myself to finish reading them because I just don't find them useful in my situation. I have issues and I am very disappointed at myself. I need a book that says "Help for moms who has 0 tolerance". I have emailed one of the groups I found and let's see what they say....

And I wish I had mom friends that could get together over wine! I actually do, but they are not real good friends and we talk about very surface stuff and we don't really get together.... the last time we sat together without kids was, 2 years ago? :(

I'm in two group texts with my best mom friends and we act as a big support to each other. I don't know what I would do without them. I've not felt the need for anything beyond that, but if I did, I wouldn't hesitate. I think making sure you have a relationship with your child that is healthy for both of you is well worth any money put out.

@irene: I'm not in a parenting support group, other than the dinner parties (with wine) we would have with parenting friends. But this book completely changed how I parent, and gave me so many tools that I use every day! It totally transformed my relationship with my kids:

Are you in a local parenting support group?

I've been struggling at times.... especially with screaming and intolerance to my 4.5 year old DS :-( I have very little patience and I could use some help. Out of curiosity, I googled parenting support group and several popped up. They are groups led by professionals (supposedly). Most of them are for parents with adolescents, which really freaked me out about the road ahead of me, but it makes me wonder if any of you may be in a support group like that, or thinking about getting into one. Talking to someone would really help me but I am not sure I am comfortable dishing out $$$ every other week....

Would you mind sharing your experience if you are in a group like that? And what is your struggle with parenting?
