Not sure about SA but in Dallas there are early childhood ptas that can be a good social scene to meet people. usually related to your neighborhood or local elementary. Could be worth searching out. Ours is very active and has events all year and playgroups by age, as well as an awesome fb group.

Hi! Are there any bees from the San Antonio area who have a "keeping it real" personality / parenting style? My sister moved there relatively recently, and has a sweet 5 week old babe. She is feeling a bit isolated and could really use some friendly support or cameraderie, either online or in person.

She has lots of friends, some of whom are parents, but their communication style seems to be more along the lines of "MY infant is sleeping through the night already, isn't yours?" and "Are you STILL feeding every 2hrs? Wow!" We live in another country, and have greatly benefitted from parent groups and friends that are more willing to say "Yes, this is awful isn't it? You are doing great, wanna hang out and commiserate together?"

So I'm wondering if you know of any local groups, online forums, Facebook groups etc that she could plug into so she doesn't feel so alone and like she's failing at parenting? Basically something like this wonderful site, but on a local or face-to-face level?

Thank you in advance!!! I wish we were closer to her ourselves, but I know there's got to be plenty of other "keeping it real" parents out there, right?

we live in Brookline, which is just south of the liberty tunnels. I'm working on starting a group like "MOPS" or something similar... of course, working full time doesn't give me much time for organizing something like that, so it's a slow process! how old are your LO's?

infant room: 12 weeks to mobile (separated from older infants); mobile to 18 mo
Toddler Room: 18 mo - 3 yr (potty trained)
Early Childhood : 3-6 yr (includes Kinder)

We go to a Montessori day care/pre-school, so mixed age groups are part of the philosophy. The younger ones learn a lot from the older ones and the older ones learn to take care or be mindful of the younger ones, so it ends up being ok.

Our daycare only takes kids 15 months and up.

There is a toddler room and a toddler nursery (which is older toddlers) and they split the kids from 15 months to 24 months between these two rooms. Not sure where the split happens because Wagon Jr. started in the toddler room at 18 months, then went straight to the young 3s room the next fall at 2 years, 9 months.

Then there's a young 3's room, then pre-k, then kindergarten.

My mom and I were debating this today because it seems like toddlers are a hard group.

Our center has young/old age groups. So:

Young Infants are 3-9 months (not mobile)
Older Infants are 10-14 months (mobile)
Toddlers (15-24 months)
Young 2's/Older 2's etc.

I guess my concern is that there is a big difference in a 15 month old and a 24 month old. The toddler room seems like it's the only one not split.
