@littlecasita1122: I tried to do this too. Gender neutral for crib and stroller for sure and a lot of the big ticket items on our registry.

We don't know what baby is yet, so we've only bought gender neutral things. I plan to keep this in mind, though, even after baby is born, and not buy too many things that are gender specific. It's harder to do (especially on the cheap, and if it's a girl), but I don't want to have to buy a new wardrobe for each kid!

I figured we at least saved money by doing gender neutral big stuff - the strollers, car seats, high chair, pack n' play, etc so I won't feel as badly buying another wardrobe if we end up having a girl in the future (we have a boy now). My LO's wardrobe is clearly boyish so I wouldn't feel comfortable putting a girl in a lot of his stuff.

I am also being more careful with sleep sacks, bibs, and burp cloths now - I try to buy gender neutral stuff whenever possible and not just focus on blue!

@Bao: @autumnlove: I know everything we have so far is very clearly girly! I can't even imagine DH would be okay with a son wearing girly pajamas if we ever have a son! And I'm sure that's something no one even sees besides the parents!

I am crossing my fingers for at least one more girl so all these beautiful clothes don't go to waste!

If we had a boy first I'd feel comfortable putting DD in most things that aren't too boyish. Everyone calls her a boy when she's wearing head to toe pink sparkle dresses so she may as well be in jeans and t-shirt. Grrrrr

Most of my LO's clothes are super girly (except for plain white and NFL onesies) so we would not reuse her clothes for a boy.

Honestly, I would only put certain things from my DD on a boy, if we ever have one. We do have some gender neutral pajamas from before we knew LO's sex, so those would work. We also have gender neutral onesies. Other than that though, it's all pretty girly. We got a lot of it from consignment shops though, so we would just do the same for a future boy, to save money.

I know there's always talk of saving $ and getting the most use out of a LOs clothing, especially since LOs grow so darn fast! I love Brandy's (Heart & Habit) fashion posts, but it does seem MUCH easier to do this when 1st LO is a boy and 2nd LO is a girl. No one seems to bat an eye if a girl wears her brother's hand-me-downs, but what if it were the other way around? Would you dress your son in your daughter's hand-me-downs? I'm sure there are some things that can be unisex (jeans and sweatshirts namely), but would you or your SO feel weird about dressing your son in "girl's clothes"?

FWIW - I had all older boy cousin hand-me-downs forever as a kid. Not pretty in pics at all. :(

@zippylef: Oh I know! Seems like there are professional sellers that just sell Gymboree stuff all day every day! I just got an adorable leopard set too NWT! And Kate Mack - whoa, eBay prices are still too rich for my blood too! lol

@rachiecakes: I totally understand what you're saying! For a little girl, I'm more willing to buy something very lightly worn, if she even just wears it once or twice is okay. But with a boy, I think I'd be a lot more selective and picky about what I'd buy just because he'd probably have less clothes overall.

Honestly, I'm not picky. If I think it's cute and it's in great condition, I'll buy it. I've never been one to shop brands anyway and at this point I'm only buying 0-6m clothes, so he won't be wearing them long anyway.

I also love the EMU critter shoes/boots.

I shop for Gymboree used, there is a HUGE market for it. Ive gotten whole outfits of NWT stuff for like $10. I also do Gap and Janie and Jack and boutique brands like Mud Pie, Giggle Moon, Kate Mack, Matilda Jane, etc. although, most of those boutique brands are too rich for my blood, even used.

@c.sassy: hmmm.. second RL rejection... I actually bought a couple of really cute RL stuff this weekend, but not the regular "polo" type looking stuff. But good to keep in mind regarding resell.

@PrincessBaby: DH went to school at U of M so he has quite a few friends all in that area. And DH WISHES he could ban me from buying any more clothes, but being cooped up all weekend it's impossible for him to say anything! hahaha!

@Mrs. Bee: I didn't think you consignment shopped! Cool! I know, I've been sooo tempted to get some Crew Cut stuff on eBay, but I'd have to wait so long for LO to grow into them! I did score a REALLY cute Zara jacket (one of the pricier items) and some really unique boutique/foreign stuff this weekend!

So far Janie & Jack, Mini Boden seem universally appealing for resale value! Good to know! ;)

I mean, Janie and Jack dresses for $8 and $9? I can't pass that up! They all look like they've been worn once!

I would buy second hand baby gap jeans since they are durable and don't show wear easily. Mini Boden dresses. Maybe splendid littles and little Ella Moss also. Those last two have a very good resale value. Probably not Carter's or Ralph Lauren since its likely to find them at Marshall's.

Janie and Jack and Juicy....There is a really nice high-end consignment shop in Boca Raton that I've gotten H some Juicy outfits for like $11, and some beautiful Janie and Jack dresses for less than $10. I got a couple of good deals on Ebay for juicy stuff...My favorite steal were Juicy socks that look like the Trumpette ones and they say "Smells Like Couture" on the bottoms!

I've mentioned it in another thread reply, but I'm cooped up in the mountain cabin by myself this long weekend while everyone else is out skiing. This has officially led me to seemingly have shopped all of the baby girls clothes on eBay! LoL and we might go for broke since I'm bid happy and have 2 more days to go!

IDK if it's just me, but even though I like Carters stuff and don't mind good condition used clothing, I really don't want to buy any used Carter's stuff on eBay. I guess I figure it's cheap enough to buy on sale new and not have to pay S&H.
It also led me to think about buying clothes with the mindset of re-selling some of it later. Baby Gap seems to do well half of the time. Ralph Lauren and Juicy are MY personal weaknesses (new & used).
What are YOUR fave brands you'll buy/pay for 2nd hand and what are the ones you wouldn't? (free hand-me-downs don't count obviously, since they came free!)

@Coco Bee: Yeah and clothes I honestly think doesn't matter as much taking them used as I can do whatever with them. The gear is just a lot bigger and more important I think. I think I will keep everything she gives me for awhile and then let her know when I'm going to donate it if she doesn't mind. She's done having kids.

@Bao: Good points on the food (eww) on the high chair and the swing. I've taken both cushion/cover things off and they're getting a high heat wash right now as I type!

@AprilK: :D Love that mentality!

@mrs. wagon: Wow! That is a LOT of stuff you got! I don't even know where we would begin storing it all!

@Pink Champagne: That's true. I gave everything a piping hot wash today and even managed to get a couple of stains out! Luckily we do have a place for most of it to be stored or used at a 2nd location.
