I tried a homemade version from a sports bra and it doesn't compare to my Simple Wishes bra.

@charlotte: not sure about homemade, but I originally had the Medela before I switched to simple wishes and I'm so happy I did! It fits so much better and makes pumping wayyyy better. As an exclusive pumper I would say my simple wishes bra is my #2 must have (right after the double electric pump).

I haven't tried homemade. But I love my simple wishes! It zips up the front, so it's easy to put on without totally stripping, which is nice in my office, and I don't feel like I readjust it once I'm going, and if you're planning to pump for long term, it's not really so expensive given how often it will get used!

Anyone tried both and think the simple wishes etc are worth the money? I'm using a homemade version now (cut old bra) and it does the job but I am definitely not comfortable and sometimes have to readjust multiple times. Should I invest in the real kind or are they all kind of awkward ?

@Highwire @MrsJazz @CascadeMom: Wow. I have pumped twice already today for a *total* of 7 ounces. I will try to squeeze in one more session (I am preparing to start day weaning at 6 months) this afternoon. I would be over the moon ecstactic if I pumped 7-9 ounces per session!

I pull my shirt and bra up, put on my hands free pumping bra, hook up, and go. I just bought parts for the pump at work, so I'll have all of my pieces there when I get them assembled tonight.

I pump in my own office: I pull whatever shirt I'm wearing up, drop the cups of my nursing bra down, put the hands-free bra over-top of my nursing bra, insert the flanges and pump. My pump sits on my desk.

I put my pump on my desk and get my pump pieces ready. I grab my pumping bra, push up my shirt, unclip my nursing bra clips and put on the pumping bra. Then I insert the flanges and plug in to the pump. To undo - Take off the bottles, take off bra, take off flanges. Pour milk from both bottles into one, put them both in the cooler and put my pump on the ground again.

I don't take my top off. I wear a stretchy tank top and nursing bra underneath, pull up my top (or unbutton if it's a button down) unhook the nursing bra, and put the hands-free bra on and pump away.

ETA: I pump in the lactation room. (I'm the only one using it currently so I don't keep to a schedule). I bring 4 bottles to work with me every day, my first pump is about 9-10 ounces so I cap those bottles and store them in my cooler bag in the fridge. Wipe down the pump parts put them back in the ziploc bag and store them in the fridge as well.

@Thehistoryofus: that's exactly what I do! I can't work and pump at the same time because I'm a dentist.... That'd be awkward!!

Also, you could wear a nursing bra, unsnap it and put your pumping bra over top. I tried that a few times, it worked but I just hate putting that thing on.

@Highwire: I just untuck my blouse/shirt and pull it up over my boobs, and then unclasp my bra (and sort of fold in under to get it out of the way) so that I can put on a hands-free pumping bra. I find that easier than actually getting undressed/taking shirts off . . . and it's much faster too. (I hope that makes sense.)

I never used a hands free bra at work because there wasn't a need. I could hold both sides with my arm and hand and still hand my other hand free to play on my phone.

Share your pumping routine with me please!

I feel like things would go a lot quicker if I wore a strapless bra everyday. That way I could just whip it off, put on my hands free pump bra, and get to work. Having to take my shirt entirely off so I can remove my regular bra is a pain in the ass.

Oh that's a good idea actually. We have a lactation room at work but it's sometimes hard to get my last pumping session in with others using the room too. I might try this too. I've pumped while on a long car ride but I wasn't the one driving. It worked fine, aside from the fact that we got to an unexpected tollbooth and I was like- oh, heeeeey x_x

I actually did this quite a bit when I was still pumping. It worked when we were traveling, since I could pump then give DS the bottle without stopping to nurse. My commute to work is almost an hour, and 35 mins from day care, so I had time to pump. I got everything set up, then pumped one side at a time. I didn't always get a lot and toward the end I stopped because my letdown was taking longer and longer, but it can be done.

@Thehistoryofus: That is awesome that pumping while driving works for you! I'd never have achieved let down since I had to totally concentrate on pumping and milk and my LO in order to get much of anything.

Just wanted to share that I have been doing this and it works out really well. It takes me about 15 minutes to get from day care to work and I pump about 10 minutes of that. I usually hook up while at a stop light and unhook when I get parked.

This topic came up in another thread. Does anyone else pump while driving?

I tried it today, but just with one side (less to juggle) and it worked pretty well. I was able to get about an ounce and a half which isn't that much but it might let me fit in one extra pumping session throughout the day (I pump three times at work).

I was thinking about just trying to pump one side (right sad boob) on the way to work, and pump the other side (left happy boob) on the way home. I figure even if she is hungry when I pick her up, happy boob should refill quickly.
