@Mrs. Marshmallow: DS brought it home around 13 months old. I didn’t get it but dh did. Our 4 yo at the time didn’t get sick either. He had gone away with our older lo and his parents while I stayed home with the sick baby. He got a mild fever and was just exhausted. He slept a ton of hours in a row while the grandparents entertained our older lo and then he felt better. He got the hand sores but I think it was only bad for a day or two in terms of discomfort. So a day and a half of sleep and some itching and done—seems not too bad. I don’t know what would have happened if he was not able to sleep so much though.

I was a not that bad case. Our youngest had it but no one else got it. I’m a teacher and a student at school had it and then I got it. I went in complaining of a sore throat and a fever. I had a couple sores. Nothing Advil couldn’t fix.

DH got it and it was a week of misery for him, mainly a horrible sore throat, he couldn't talk or eat. I can't rememrb about his skin but he has eczema so it's always difficult.

I was nursing LO, the original sick one. And didn't contract it. LO seemed happy, but was covered in spots.

My mom (in her 60s) got it from my niece a couple of years ago. It was terrible and she said it was worse than shingles. Her fingers and toes blistered and most of her finger nails and toes nails fell off.

When DD had it both DH and I ended up getting it too. I didn't get any sores on my mouth though, just on my hands and feet but it sucked.

I caught it through my 9mo, DH did not. I don't remember having a fever, but the worst part about it was the sores in my mouth. I could still eat, but it was very painful. I think it lasted for me about 5 days or so. Fingers crossed it isn't too bad for you!

My husband got very mild mouth sores. Couldn't figure out why they were happening and then we got a letter home from daycare notifying parents that students in my son's class had it and when we checked DS, he had the mouth sores, too. I lucked out and got nothing.

I also caught it but DW didn’t thankfully. My experience wasn’t great: sore throat, achy, fever, bad blisters on hands and feet that took weeks to fully go away. I had to explain to clients why my hands looked that way for a month after I was over it. BUT, it is possible not to catch it so fingers crossed for you.

Ugh. I got it. It was horrible. I had a very high fever and felt like death. My hands felt like they had small splinters all over them. My DS got it a second time and I didn't catch it!

I've had 2 kids get HFM, separate times. The first time, I got a bad cold. Second time, mild cold. Same with my husband. Didn't take any precautions, they were little and needed me. Also, with our most recent HFM episode, just the 3 year old got it, not the 5 year old or then 5m old baby. :)

DH got it this year and he said it was awful. He had sores all over his mouth, I believe a few on his hands, but mostly he was just feverish and exhausted for close to a week. He seemed to have a much worse case than the kids. I believe I had it a previous time and it wasn't bad (just a few mouth sores and no other issues).

DH got it. Blisters all over his hands and feet. Nothing in the mouth. He had a relatively sore throat and mild fever, but the blisters made it hard to do ANYTHING. He hobbled around and watched TV for basically a week till the blisters started fading. He lost a couple toenails they were so bad.

I am a horror story.

My son got it when he was 5 months old, I stayed home from work with him for 3 or 4 days. I ended up getting it... For the week that we were closing on our old house and new house and moving. I ended up at Urgent Care with an IV getting fluids. It was terrible. Sore throat, fever, diarrhea, and vomiting.

Edit to add, we actually had minimal mouth sores.

Well...my brother in law was a horror story.

We have had it come through our house twice (DD1 at 1, and DD2 at 4 mos). With DD1 we were all around her for 2-3 days before diagnosis and all survived without getting it. Only BIL got it bc his daughter got it. DD1 did not have many sores.

DD2 only had sores in her mouth and was basically exclusively nursing. None of us got it that time.

So...while I only have horror stories for symptoms I have good stories of adults who did not get infected!

Wishing you a very mild reaction to HFMD! I am still recovering from the severe reaction I had to it three weeks ago. Even now, my hands and feet are not close to being fully cleared up. Fortunately, the baby only had two blisters appear and a slightly elevated temp for one day.

I had a mild sore throat after my daughter got it. My husband got horrible blisters all over and couldn’t be on his feet much and his stomach was covered in them. He had a low fever as well. So sometimes it’s not too bad!

For those of you that happened to get HFMD from their child... can you talk to me about your experience? We weren't aware our son had it on the first day of fevers so we weren't very careful around him... he's on his fifth day (totally normal, just still has spots, that seem to be no longer spreading).

I had a bit of a sore throat yesterday, and today it's just... strained. And I have a 99.5-100 degree temperature. I've only read horror stories for parents that have gotten it. But... are there stories of people that didn't have a terrible experience/they warded it off? Or am I doomed....
