33 weeks and change and I just noticed what I think were hiccups last night. It's possible they happened before but this time it lasted a good minute and was just so rhythmic. It sort of felt like a muscle twitch near my hip?

I can't be absolutely sure! I'll have periods of movement that feel like they might, in fact, be hiccups, since each little "thump-thump" seems to be on a timed schedule. I'm 29 weeks and have noticed this for the past week, perhaps?

I was feeling them for a while I think, but didn't identify what they were until 28-30 weeks. My midwife was explaining that LO was head down and asking what I was feeling and where, and she explained that the rhythmic tapping I felt down low was hiccups. She seems to have them almost every day now at 34 weeks.

Sooo early here! I was feeling them around 30 weeks. LO would get them at least 5 times a day and almost always right before bed. It was really awesome at first, but then got to be a bit frustrating as they would last quite a while. And it's hard to fall asleep with your belly moving every 5 seconds!

As the title asks, when did you start feeling the baby hiccup?

This was talked about at lunch, but I'm the youngest of all the ladies in my office by about 20 years, so anyone who does have kids has totally forgotten the milestones in their pregnancies.

For peace of mind it it's never bad to check with your doctor/midwife, always go with your gut if you are concerned. My little guy had hiccups all the time in the third trimester though, I was never warned to be worried about it.

I read that too and panicked and my doctor looked at me like I had three heads when I asked about. She told me hiccups mean your baby's developing well and they are nothing to worry about. Baby probably is just in a new position that allows you to feel the hiccups. My LO had then all the time near the end and she was perfectly healthy with no cord issues.

@xoxcmjxox: from weeks 37 on I had bi-weekly NSTs and BPP ultrasounds. One of the items they look for on the ultrasound is "practice breathing/lung movement", the tech told me that hiccups were the sign of a healthy baby getting ready to enter the world, working out the diaphragm/lungs. I had baby hiccups every single morning until I gave birth and then he got them as a newborn as well. I've never heard that about the cord being in a knot. I wouldn't trust Dr. Google.

I've been feeling hiccups regularly for around 8 weeks now (I'm 34 weeks). I've never heard that it would be caused by any such issue. It's a natural result of the baby "practice breathing" and therefore inhaling amniotic fluid. I have them every day!

I am 38 weeks pregnant and noticed that my baby had hiccups for the first time (that I noticed) two days ago. Then he had them again last night. I have read that this can be a sign of there being a knot in the umbilical cord.... has anybody experienced hiccups this late in pregnancy before and never noticed them before? This is my first pregnancy so I'm not sure what to expect, and google-ing things makes me paranoid. Thanks!

About 3 weeks ago, I was telling people that I thought women who sit there and go "oh, there's his little feet, oh his little butt's over here" were full of s*** because I couldn't tell what was what. But now I think I have a pretty good idea. It took me until around 29 or so weeks to really know where everything was. Basically, I knew he was head down when I started feeling hiccups in the lower right (you will know, they literally feel like hiccups -- they're slightly faster than ours), but I didn't feel hiccups until around 26, 27 weeks. Then when the doctor pointed out his head to me (I could literally feel it when I pressed) at 29 weeks, I could make out the rest of his anatomy. I get big nudges on the upper right (butt) and big pops on the upper left (feet) and flutters in the lower left (hands). Also the right side of my uterus gets hard where the left side doesn't, so that must be his back taking up that space. It takes some time though -- at least it did for me!
