Thanks for responding everyone! @MrsLemonLime glad you told me I think it will be worth it in the end. @foodnerd81 yes that has been my thought every time I see anything about Dyson anything lol! And @hellobeeboston I have been eyeing it for a while and didn't feel like I could justify the cost. But we've been through three humidifiers and its starting to feel like when we bought four vacuums only to end up buying the Dyson. For us items that get heavy use are just worth a little extra if it limits replacement costs. Also, both my sons had/have sleep apnea and we think that having a good humidifier will really help. My two year old had his adenoid removed a year ago, but the apnea has returned because his tonsils are so huge. We think its irritated from the dryness in the air. Doc said she could remove it but its not ideal to do a tonsillectomy on a 2 year old. So we're trying to find other ways to reduce the size of his tonsils enough to stop the apneas from occurring. In any event, long story to say I'm going to get it and try it. I'll let you ladies know what I think after we put it to use!

I really want this, the price is giving me pause though.

I’ve hated almost every humidifier we’ve owned, just not sure this is worth it.

Ha- i read the title of this and immediately thought “I want it”.

We like the Dyson vacuums. I’m sure the Dyson humidifier is a lot more expensive but a lot better than my crane ones. I’d love to know what people think.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: good to know.

We have the humidifier and air purifier in LO’s room. He has the best air in the house. We started off with a different humidifier that you find on lots of Baby registries and definitely like the Dyson products better.

Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the Dyson humidifier? It's expensive, but my son is pretty much up all night coughing. I know I could get a cheaper one but we will probably put it to heavy use. Need something that doesn't get everything all wet and is easy to maintain. I own a Dyson vacuum and I like the quality and ease of use( and cleaning) of their products. Let me know if you own one or know someone who does! Thanks!

For white noise DD uses my old clock radio from high school. It doesn't turn off (unless I put on the timer) and it has a variety of sounds. In the winter we use a humidifier in almost every room of the house (in Boston).

@kjpugs: our friend gifted us this sound machine - http://www.amazon.com/myBaby-Soundspa-Lullaby-Machine-Projector/dp/B008KG5R6I/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1367181661&sr=8-10&keywords=sound+machine - it wasn't even something i registered for (i wanted the marpac), but it has been one of the best, well-used gifts we've gotten! it has 6 sounds (heartbeat, ocean, rain, twinkle twinkle, rockabye baby, and cradle), and it comes with a projector screen. my daughter loves looking at the moon and stars on her ceiling while listening to twinkle twinkle... and i turn it off right before i leave the room. when she was an infant, we just kept the heartbeat sound on all night and it really soothed her. we've been using it all 28-months of her life and it's still going strong!

we don't use a night light, but a humidifier has been essential for us, especially when the kids are sick. we use it every night even when she isn't sick because sometimes when we don't turn it on, she'll wake up with a bloody nose from the dryness. we live in california, so it can get pretty dry.

edit: by the way, my friend purchased our sound machine from target... it's cheaper there. i noticed on amazon it's $30 + $10 shipping. don't get it on amazon!

We use a humidifier during the winter because our heat is forced air and seems to make Ria more prone to coughing. It's also a great white noise so we use it until it's warm enough to have the overhead fan on, which is also white noise. So we don't use a white noise machine, specifically.

We use this night light: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30150984/

I have the marpac sound machine. It's the best thing we could have ever purchased for her sleep. She hears it go on (we turn it on when we go in her room to put on pj's and start reading) and she visibly calms down. We put a very low wattage lightbulb in a lamp and use that as a nightlight. I also have a night light we bought from Walmart for $3 that plugs in the wall. It stays on all day and night - it's a very low light but enough to give some light so it's not pitch black in there.

Oh also, my mom always used to just put a small dish or bucket of water next to the heater/ac vent in my room - kind of a 'poor man's humidifier'! She put a little soap in the water to keep the dog from drinking it.

I have that $20 homedic soundspa sound machine. I wanted the option of the timer, or leaving it on. Haven't used it with the baby yet but we have one in our room (with a clock on it) and like it.

Can't help you with florida humidity but I live in the north, and we got the crane humidifier that looks like a raindrop. We'll probably only use it in the winter; it's plenty humid here in the summer but very dry in wintertime. I have read that humidifiers can cause more problems with allergies an mold spores. So if you're not feeling you need one, I wouldn't bother!

Yeah, I really like it. It goes up pretty loud and can drown out the dog barking. I like the white noise and rain the best... the ocean is okay, but I like the sleep sheep ocean better.

My friend swears by the Marpac one-- she has one in her bedroom and is getting one for the baby's room. I'm not convinced it's worth 3 times as much as a regular one though. I think it depends on how much noise you have to block-- like, if you live on a sort of busy street, or near a police station or hospital with the sirens, it prob would drown out noise better, but if you just want some constant background noise, I'm not sure.

It was $24.99 (and eligible for Prime) though when I bought it a few months ago from Amazon, so maybe look for a cheaper buying option. You can set the timer or leave it on all night.

I know you're not looking for this, but a dimmer switch was something I didn't realize I needed. My baby was staying up for too long after night feeds and someone on HB recommended this dimmer switch for the lamp beside my bed so that she didn't get confused by the light. It's worked out great!!!

Looking for your ideas/rec's on these items...

White noise machine with a few noise options that doesn't have an auto-off?

Is a humidifier really necessary? Anyone have one they love? We had to use them back in Indiana (not sure if we will need in FL?) and they always leaked, so I have no good ideas for this one.

Night light that provides soft light at night - OXO Candela Zoom was recommended to me but I am not into the rocket shape, anyone have something similar they like?

Thanks in advance :)

We bought a Vicks Ultrasonic Humidifier last night to help with our LO's dry coughs and eczema. It did the trick for them, but we found that the whole carpet surrounding the humidifer was damp/almost soaking. Is this normal? What am I missing?

We have a Vicks humidifier (warm air). This is the description:

The Vicks V745A Warm Mist Humidifier w/ Auto Shut-Off is a warm mist humidifier that provides relief from cough and congestion through the release of warm moisture. This humidifier includes an auto shut off function, nightlight, and medicine cup. Perfect for medium to large sized rooms, this warm mist humidifier runs quietly and operates for up to 12 hours per filling, while not requiring the use of a filter.

I love it! And its super quiet.

We've gone through so many humidifiers in the past 10 years. The only one that stuck and worked very well was the Swiss O Air. It's a bit pricey but works very well. Gives you option of warm or cool mist.
