@hilsy85: No prob! Hope you find the issue or maybe it's just a defective pump / part. I wouldn't hesitate giving them a call if you can't figure it out. =)

@hilsy85: Check to make sure the tube fitting isn't being inserted too far into the flange. Also, check the filter - changing the filter at 6 months use I noticed a big change in suction. Lastly make sure the duckbill valve isn't torn as this would affect the "sucking" motion of the pump since a torn valve would interfere with the airflow.

One thing I do is turn on the pump without the tubes inserted into the pump, then check if both ports of the filter are sucking "freely". Then work your way out towards the bottles examining the different parts along the way. Hope this helps!

Also try calling Hygeia - they have excellent customer service.

I have one, but it doesn't work! There's no auction on one of the flanges...any ideas what could be causing it?

@yin: Oooh that makes sense! It's awesome you have your sis's to borrow too. I tell all my friends about Hygeia and more often than not, they've never heard of it.

@littleveesmommy: I'm only considering using her refurbished one because mine has been so heavily used for a year. For the first 6 months I pumped about 8-10 times a day, and towards the end I was pumping 5 times a day. It has a lot of wear and tear, especially on days when I was fighting mastitis and clogged ducts. I'm sure it will hold up with another kid, but I'll give it a break and try my sister's pump (reburbed Hyegia).

@yin: How come you'd borrow your sister's refurbished one? Is it a lot better?

@yin: @littleveesmommy: thank you ladies for sharing. i do really love my hygeia i was just so surprised at the cost of parts. next time i think i will know better to order up front and have things on hand instead of paying for 'one off' shipping when i need something!

@littlebittyhouse: I exclusively pumped for a year and absolutely loved my Hygeia. I plan on using it again for baby #2, but I might use my sister's refurbished one instead.

The spare parts set I bought included a set of tubes, set of duckbill valves, a filter, flanges, and bottles - with this set plus the parts that came with the pump I pumped 4-5 times a day for 5 days a week (plus 1-2 times a day on weekends) from 2.5-11.5 months. I actually completely forgot until 6 months in and changes the filter (it didn't seem worn), then noticed that suction was a lot better! So I probably could have used 1-2 more filters during that time but my output didn't seem affected enough for me to notice. Surprisingly I didn't tear any of my valves and they are still in pretty good condition!

It stinks that Amazon doesn't carry the spare parts anymore. Shipping on Hygeia site is pricey! =\ Hopefully the accessories will begin to be more accessible since it's one of the pumps insurance companies cover and more people will start using it. I know a lot of people still do not know about this pump.

@yin: @littleveesmommy: I couldn't find them on amazon wahhhhhhh

I burn through duckbill valves and filters for some reason. I handwash the valves but after about a month they usually have a small tear which for me = less output. I change the filter about 1x every 3 mo.

Do you both use yours alot? I typically pump 3-4x per day 5 days a week.

I also have a Hygeia (love the pump!) and was able to buy supplies off Amazon fairly easily. I think I was able to buy a set of spare parts with free shipping. Also I think I used the same duckbill valve plus two spare ones that came with the spare parts set for the entire 9-10 months I pumped. I sterilized them every 1-2 weeks by boiling but other than that, just washed in soapy water. I didn't feel like they needed replacing but did end up replacing the tubes with the spare part set ones because the part where I inserted into the pump flange got worn down.

I have a hygeia and absolutely love it but also ran into the same issues finding spare parts. I ended up buying through amazon or other reputable sellers and had to swallow the hefty price.

I have a Hygiea Enjoye that I received from my insurance company, While I do love it, I find it hard to buy any 'spare parts' because I cannot find them in stores. When I order I have to do so from the actual company and it is pricey!

For example, I just ordered 6 duckbill valves and it cost me $26.99 + $10 in shipping!

Does anyone else have a Hygiea and if so, have you found another alternative to buying the supplies you need?
