L is 8.5 months old and we haven't really had any sickness yet (knock on wood)... Maybe a cough once or twice? She has been exclusively breast fed except when we supplemented the first three weeks.

I think it was 3 times sniffles/some fever for a day or so. But he only got his first real sickness around 15 months (throat infection) and it did coincide with a significant drop in BF so I am not discounting that.

I bf DD for 4 mo and DS for 13 mo. Honestly I have not noticed a huge difference in amount of illness. They are both day care kids since 4-5 months. Neither of them got too sick before 1 year except for colds and a few ear infections. Things started getting bad after 1yr for DD. she had pneumonia and enough ear infections for tubes. DS is only 14 mo so we'll see how he fares. He has an ear infection right now actually . I think it gets worse once they are toddlers since they are more mobile (less access to germs when they cant move) and also interacting more with other kids.

On the plus side though, at 4 yr,DD has an immune system of iron now. She gets sick but it's rarely of any concern, and most parents I've talked to said at least she won't have to miss much school in he future.

@irene: I count congestion! If I have to constantly wipe or suck out snot, it counts :) He had a fever of 103.6 and still acted fine. So I go by symptoms instead of activity level when he is sick.

@Coco Bee: I guess life is just not fair then...?!

@JustlikeHeaven: @sweetkate: If congestion doesn't count as sickness... then I guess LO has been really sick for 3 times... other than that it'd be 7 or 8 or more, where he'd sneeze, cough, has runny nose, but otherwise extremely playful and normal...

This was one of my biggest concerns when I stopped breastfeeding DD. However at 7 months she still has yet to get sick. Same as cocobee where she has had some congestion for a couple days but she still acted like normal. Playing, smiling and so on.

Also she has a nanny who takes her out and about ALL the time and is around 2 other little kids as well - a one and a two year old.

@irene: I'm a SAHM, but I was a nanny up until last week, so he hung around two other kids consistently and one was in school for half the time. They went out all the time.
I also go out with him several times a week - the park, the grocery store, library, errands etc. And we've taken three trips since he's been born (and was touched ALL THE TIME in the airport on our last trip).

@Coco Bee: Do you take him to daycare, have a nanny, or are you a SAHM? We have a nanny but she takes him out a lot..... not sure if it has anything to do with that. We'll be starting daycare when he turns 1 (next Jan) so I am not sure what to expect.......

DS is 7 months old and he has already been sick 5 or 6 times. He is mostly breastfed with some formula bottles during the day. He is in daycare though, which is where he has gotten most of his colds.

Who said that breastfed babies never get sick????

We exclusively breastfed for the first 7-8 months, and he's still getting breastmilk (except a bottle of formula here and there) now at 9 months. But man, LO is sick all the time! From what I can remember he had 3 major sickness where he has a fever (including right now as we speak), and many times where he'd cough and had runny nose...etc. Luckily he hasn't had an ear infection yet.

How many times has your baby gotten sick? And is he breastfed or formula fed?
