My first winter out in northern Canada, i had a horrible flu for 2 weeks. But it also could have been because it was an extremely dry cold which makes me (personally) more susceptible to getting sick.

I would still want my LO to wear a jacket if it was cold outside.

Whatever the technicalities are YES. I live in what seems like the coldest place on earth and whenever I get COLD I get sick. Like if the heater fails or I get wet winter camping.

Nope. I think it is more the stress of the holidays and spending more time snuggled inside with more germy people, and also simply partly in peoples' heads.

Maybe its the stress of being out in the cold that does it? I know that where I live, if we have a really mild streak in our winter, the flu is way more vicious. The older people swear the cold weather kills the germs. I have no idea though!

I've always heard the "cold weather can make you sick" thing is a myth. This talks a bit about it: http://www.weather.com/health/cold-flu/temp-change-sick-20130219

No, i don't think it's due to cold weather...i think there are other issues in the winter that make you more likely to get sick. You're always inside, maybe you germ on more of your clothing and don't wash it...the dryness may keep germs alive longer?...*shrug*

My mother is always nagging us to wear more clothing when it's cold outside, especially with LO. The cold doesn't seem to bother him, so sometimes I don't force a jacket on him when he refuses. My mother thinks cold temperatures can compromise your immune system and makes you more susceptible to getting sick, which is much improved than when she believed you can catch a cold by being out in the cold. =P What is your take on this? Should I force my LO to wear a jacket more often then?
