We skipped the sippy and went to straw cups with water around 8-9ish months. When we switched from BM to WCM, we put it in straw cups. My younger child moved on to open cups at daycare at 13 months and was using them effectively by 15 months.

We eliminated the night time bottle at 9 months. It was getting too hard to fit it in to our routine, so we switched to a sippy with formula at dinner. We vary between spouted ones and straw ones.

Then at 11m we slowly replaced his daycare bottles with solids and offered sippies of water. His last bottle to go was the morning one, at 12m, which I replaced with breakfast and a sippy.

We fully transitioned by 12 months. She did well with the sippy cup so there was no point in keeping the bottle. She had been drinking water out of a sippy for a long time. She has her last cup of milk for the day at dinner, not at bedtime, so we can get her teeth brushed. So far we just use the Take N Toss cups. No extra parts to clean and they are cheap.

He did best learning the actual sucking part by us squeezing up on those take n toss straw cups. Once he got that the Tommee Tippee trainer straw cups with the handles were easiest for him. DS still does not like cups that require hard sucking to get the liquid out and we found the Tommee Tippee ones to be fairly easy to suck liquid out of. We were willing to sacrifice leakproof technology or whatever because they pissed him off. His favorite cup at home now (cuz it has not lid or cover for travel) is the Zoomi cup from Amazon.

@gingerbebe: what straw cups did you start with? We have a sippy cup for T and he loves it (just with water) but isn't really getting the tipping part. He really prefers if we tip it for him. I thought I might try a straw to see if that works better. He's a rough and tumble kind of boy so I was afraid of him stabbing himself in the mouth with the straw!

We offered straw cups of water at meals starting at 9 months and had them out in his play areas, mostly to get familiar. By 11 months we were offering formula in the straw cups at meals and water with snacks. DS self weaned mostly so by 12 months he just got a 2-3 ounce snack bottle in the morning while we prepped his breakfast and the rest of the time he was on straw cups. We did straw cups because my son never held his own bottles so he didn't understand tipping his head back and using sippy cups.

We dropped the bottle cold turkey at 12 months and gave her WCM in a sippy cup from then on (though she did still nurse morning and night). When LO was first learning to use a cup with water (around 7 months) she did much better with straw cups than sippy cups. When we started doing WCM she did best with the cheapo take and toss sippy cups you buy at the grocery store!

The baby was always over tired at drop off and I always had to wake her up for pick up, since she napped 3-4x a day. So that was the worst part of it for me when DD2 was a baby, not the actual drop off/pick up logistics. That part must've been easy since I barely remember it!

Our daycare is a large center-- ramps, multiple doors/gates, so I found using a stroller/car seat was more of a pain. Most parents don't use strollers and if they do, they are those super lightweight umbrella ones, not suitable for infants. I prefer to use the ergo and have one big tote bag ready to hold everything else-- lunch/bottle bag, papers, clothes, etc. My daughter is 2.5 so she just walks and holds my hand when we get out of the gate to the parking lot. I pick my son up first, stick him in the ergo, then make my way to my daughter's class.

When we get to the car, I open her door and she climbs in to her seat. I then buckle my son in his seat, and come back to buckle my daughter. My days of using the ergo are probably numbered though and soon I'll just have to walk with the both of them.

My husband does most of the drop offs. When DS was smaller/sleepier, he would take him in the bucket seat. But now he just holds his hand or carries him in. My daughter usually gets dropped off first and while DH is getting her situated, my son just stands around/explores her classroom.

You'll figure it out! :)

We don't have a car, so I never used a car seat, but I would take the stroller with the bassinet, pop off the bassinet attachment so I could take it up the stairs, and get DS that way. When the baby was no longer in the bassinet but in the stroller seat, I would pop off the seat attachment and take it up the stairs. Our new daycare doesn't have stairs, so I just wheel DD in and leave her in the stroller, but the entrance is right next to the coat room so I can see her the whole time.

I think it's no more complicated than any other thing you do with two, meaning that there is a learning curve but once you get used to it it's not too bad. The key for me in the morning was getting myself and baby ready first and then waking my toddler at the last minute and getting dressed/quick breakfast in as short a time as possible. If we drove I would get the toddler out, have him hold his backpack and then grab the baby. I found it easiest to just carry baby in and not bother with carseat/stroller/carrier. But usually we walked so it was easier. Also, we were late (a lot). :silly:

I open the door to let LO1 climb into his seat. Then I put LO2 in his seat and buckle him in (at the time he was already in a convertible). Go back and buckle LO2 and drive to school. Once there I let LO1 out and wear LO2. I have my hands free and can help my oldest get situated and sign him in. Baby wearing stopped once LO2 started walking, and I just carry him in. I let him walk around in the hallway and classroom while I help LO1. Other moms just carry the infant bucket seat with them or use a stroller. I'm the odd one in the bunch.
