@kce56: I'm 45 and early menopause runs in my family and I have a history of infertility/bad egg quality. My NP has run blood work and she said I was most likely in perimenopause although she did blood work in September before taking out the Mirena and she said I was definitely not menopausal yet. As to symptoms, I've gained quite a bit of weight and can't lose it (although that could have been the mirena) and I feel like my body temp has changed. I used to be a lot colder than I am now. None of that makes for a definitive diagnosis, I just feel like I'm moving toward menopause. I would talk to your gyn about it and they should be able to run blood work to get an idea of your levels.

@jmom If you don’t mind me asking, how do you know you’re perimenopause? Was there a test or is it based on symptoms? If I was perimenopause, yes it’s annoying, but at least I would know what’s up. Thanks!!

I’m actually seeing a different doctor this week - same practice though but after all the testing I don’t know what she will say. I’ve had I’ve heard many women take several months for periods to return post-Mirena. Just feels like I’m having the opposite issue - shorter cycles, longer periods! Maybe perimenopause but im only 36!!

I'm following this as I had my Mirena removed almost 3 months ago and my period hasn't started yet. I had it removed because of mood issues, I was angry all the time. Removal seems to have helped in that area, I hope your anxiety has gotten better. Have you considered a second gynecologist opinion?

Hi everyone,

I had my Mirena removed nearly a year ago after it was causing a great number of side effects (crippling anxiety being the primary one). Turns out the IUD was slightly embedded in my uterus though the GYN was able to remove it w/o surgery. Since then, my periods have been irregular, closer together (as few as 21 days apart), and longer (up to 7-8 days). I’ve had smears, endometrial biopsies, ultrasounds, and more - all negative. The GYN thinks it’s hormonal and I can either live with it or go on the pill. Has anyone had a similar issue post-Mirena? Did your periods even out eventually? Thanks!!

@mrsmbeegee: I was 3 years without AF (got the Mirena after my last daughter) so this is just awful. I'm not going to lie the cramps might lay me out today...

No, not TCC the Mirena was causing me some issues and my doc wanted to remove me from all hormones to see if it would help me. It's funny I was all for a 3rd baby until I got my Mirena out and now I'm like "NOPE I'm DONE!" haha so we will have to figure out our long term plan. I'm going to wait a year but a permanent plan will probably go into place after that time.

@mrsmbeegee: I'm currently pregnant! It took us 6 cycles to get pregnant. It was definitely longer than the first time. I went to a naturopath and took vitex and a few other herbs for a few months. Did acupuncture the cycle before and the cycle I got pregnant. Who knows why it took so long but it was super frustrating at the time.

@sojellybean: I almost caved and bought OPKs yesterday. I'm really hoping to avoid charting for a few months, but based on how anxious I am now I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to wait to chart. It's killing me to not know what's going on.

@kiddosc: I had a super slight period over the weekend for just 1 day. For now I put it in my app as a light period and I had EWCM a couple days after, but I'm only tracking CM and CP right now so no idea if I'm actually ovulated. I figure I'll take a test at the end of the month if I don't get a real period by then.

I'm also surprised how much more energy I have since I had it removed. I didn't even realize how the IUD was effecting me until after I had it out.

I had my Mirena IUD removed last week and the dr gave us the go ahead to start to TTC right away. I’m interested to hear experiences with post-IUD AF. So far, I’ve only spotted on and off. I’ve heard most people get a full period within 2-4 weeks. Has anyone only spotted and then got their BFP? (FWIW, we got pregnant the first cycle trying with LO#1.)

I was confused about it too and did a lot of Googling. I checked my chart and I had some spotting 2.5 weeks later but no real period until 6 weeks. I had it removed end of March so I've had 4 cycles since then.

It's taking me longer to get pregnant this time, but hopefully it's not a result of the IUD... Who knows, though. I temped and used OPKs last month and it seems that I'm ovulating, so hopefully I'm back to normal.

I got my IUD removed in early july, I spotted for two days about two days after removal and since then nothing. I had all the symptoms of ovulation, and then two weeks later felt nauseous, bloated, exhausted etc, but BFN. I'm now 5 weeks from my removal and no sign of a period yet. I'm going to a naturopath tomorrow to discuss hormone balancing and perhaps acupuncture to things regulated, but was wondering if anyone else had either herbs, acupuncture or anything else to help get your body back to normal? I want to TTC asap so i'm eager to get things back.
