I'd look for the resale of an expensive jogger. We got our bob from Craigslist and it works great. I've tried out friends and I wouldn't be able to get a real run with them. You need good tires and a bit of suspension and anything with that is going to cost a bit new.

So I am in the market for an inexpensive jogging stroller. I have started getting back into running but don't want to commit to a $300 stroller yet (Bob, I'm looking at you!) as I want to be sure that I will really be able to commit to running before I spend that type of money. I have looked online on craigslist etc. but no dice and I have a 5k around the corner that I need to train for so I need a jogging stroller asap!
Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent jogging stroller in the 100- 150 range? I have been looking at some of the baby trend joggers in Target and they seem decent, but of course you never know until mile 2 and by then its too late!
Any recommendations would be great!

I LOVE my CityMini. It's a wonderful stroller and not crazy expensive. It's really lightweight, has a big canopy, a decent sized basket underneath, the universal carseat adaptor works with any infant seat, you can fold it with one hand, is compact. I run a lot of errands with just me and the baby and I find it very easy to deal with.

We got ours for $200 with a 20% coupon from Buy Buy Baby.

I second the BOB revolution. It's a bit heavy taking in and out of a car for running errands, but if she wants one that can do it all, this is the one. It folds up pretty compactly too. You can buy an adapter that the car seat can click into.

If it's a stroller she can run with, a BOB Revolution would most certainly fit the bill! I've had many different strollers (bugaboo, Uppa Baby, Maclaren, Mountain Buggy, and Snap n Go), but I really LOVE the BOB! Amazing suspension and steer.... Love it for jogging and everyday errands.

So my friend is preggo (yay!) And she is seriously overwhelmed with all the options out there for strollers. I don't have a kid yet, but I have done a lot of research but don't have any personal experience. This is where you come in!

Basically, she wants a stroller she can run with, take around town, put a car seat into. What do you recommend? I don't think she has a budget as of yet.

I jog with my LO and have since he was about 2 months old. I have a special insert that I used until he was around 5 months. I have a doctor friend and she used a car seat insert that attached on top of her jogging stroller - it was pretty cool because she could look at and talk to her baby the whole time.

Also, I don't think that jogging with a baby in a carrier is safe at all. That would be much more jarring to their little bodies than running with them in a jogger. Every step would jar them. I've never seen or heard of someone running with a baby/child in a carrier.

DS is 16 months old and I've been jogging with him in our Baby Jogger Summit XC jogging stroller since he was 11 weeks old.

Typically strollers/manufacturers advise not to run with an child under 12 months, though I've seen 6 months and 9 months out there too. I've also seen warnings not to run with an infant seat on the stroller, I think because it makes it top heavy so a bump or turn could potentially make the stroller topple over.

The reason that the age cutoff is so high is because of liability issues. Not all babies develop strength and head control at the same time, especially premies, so the companies want to cover themselves from lawsuits.

We never used an infant seat, but I think if I were going slow on flat, paved, very smooth surfaces, I would be okay doing it. The infant seat gives much more support that the stroller itself does.

DS was born 10lbs9oz and could lift his head for a few seconds at a time when he was born. He had great head and neck control by 10-11 weeks, so at our 12 week apt I asked the pediatrician. He evaluated DS's head control, and gave the okay for flat, paved, smooth surfaces. (Really nice sidewalk or a paved path - no bumps).

I think most babies have good enough head control by 4ish months, so it's always good to ask your pediatrician. Just start slow. Also you can ask your pediatrician about head supports for the jogger too. The after market products like the snuzzler are not safe for carseat use, but they are great to add support in a stroller. We just took the head support that came with his infant seat and used it in the jogger for the first few weeks I was running with him.
