@T.H.O.U.: I do know that if I hadn't been diagnosed (with a single mutation) I wouldn't have pushed to get my husband tested, and it turns out he has a compound heterozygous mutation with a history of severe heart disease in his family so it was helpful for him.

@spaniellove: yes I realize that doing research according to insurance companies wanting to save money and deny everything isn't great! But we may see more doctors lean this way in the future.

@Mrs.Someone: agree! I think they totally should still test for it just to be sure that in combination of other things there isn't an issue there. But if it's a single mutation I can se why they don't want to alarm patients.

@T.H.O.U.: Yes, that would explain why BCBS denied my MTHFR testing and said it was investigational. Then again, they also denied payment for my fetal fibronectin testing, saying it was investigational.

@FaithFertility: I'm on a supplement called 5-MTHF on top of my prenatal that has Folate (instead of Folic Acid). I agree with THOU, just having one mutation isn't anything to be concerned about.

@T.H.O.U.: I think this is some what true, but it "stacks up" with other clotting issues, which can cause loss. Having 2 mutations is also a problem because not absorbing folic acid can lead to birth defects (spina bifida, cleft palate, etc)

@T.H.O.U.: I came across research finding that it was only really linked to loss in certain minority ethnicities (of which I happen to be one), which may explain why.

@FaithFertility: just a heads up, my specialist mentioned that the OB organization (whatever the big one is I can't remember) is starting to find that the MTHFR really may not be linked to loss/infertility and may be changing their standard on the RPL panel to not test for it. So especially if you only have one mutation I don't know I would kill myself over it.

Juice diets aren't particularly healthy in my book, too much sugar and no protein. 1 copy of MTHFR isn't a huge deal really, something like 40% of people have it. I have 2 copies and was really only put on a particular folic acid for it, nothing else. Mthfr.net is a great resource if you have questions. I hope this is your answer though!

I'm sorry about the MTHFR, but I'm really glad that you have some answers! It seems like lots of ladies have had success with a change in their folic acid/vitamin and adding aspirin to the regimen. Hopefully this is the first step in you getting a sticky baby!
