I even am all about the last names for first names trend - so I would be okay if it was a less common last name. I don't think it's awful (although agree with the hymen thing), but I think there are SO many great names out there, that you should stick with already established ones. My son has a not so common name (that I love!) and we don't deal with the issues @ChiCalGoBee: expressed. I would dig deep into the SSA list and see if you can find one that interests you just as much. </p> <p>BUT, if you search and still love it - use it! Who cares what the public thinks. You do you. My grandma made it up. Every time he meets a new person, he introduces himself, and 9 times out of 10 the person says, "XXXX? What? Can you repeat that?" Having grown up watching him struggle with his name, I would never give a kid a name that needs an explanation every time they meet a new person-be it for the pronunciation, or just the general "Your name is WHAT? Where did that come from?" factor.
