I use Bright Green. Its unscented and seems to be just fine for DD. It would be so annoying to have to separate all her clothes!

My DH and I were already using free and clear so I was planning on using that but then saw that Honest Companies detergent is pretty much the same price for the same amount of loads so I bought that to wash the baby clothes and will switch over to that for the whole family once I am out of my free and clear.

You're fine :-) The free and clears are good for baby. And I also recently read that dermatologists say regular detergent is also fine for babies, as long as they don't have particularly problematic skin.

I just use the same Honest Company detergent we use on our own clothes. I believe the baby detergents are scented and that could actually aggravate a baby's sensitive skin? But my mom was the same as yours - totally thought I needed to have Dreft :silly:

My daughter has sensitive skin and I use Tide original on everything...bedding, our clothes, her clothes and her cloth diapers and have never had issues. When she first started getting rashy I changed her shampoo from Johnsons to some unscented natural stuff and stopped using dryer sheets on her stuff at the same time so I don't know if it was only one or both of those things bothering her. But I've never changed the detergent and she's good now. I figure the detergent is mostly gone after the rinse cycle but the dryer sheets residue stays on the clothes so I started there.

We totally bought the expensive baby detergent (Dreft) but after a month, tried washing some of my son's clothes in our regular detergent (Free A&C, like you) to see if he reacted. He didn't so we didn't buy any more of the expensive stuff :)

I think it's a gimmick, but I know some babies DO have crazy sensitive skin, so maybe have a small bottle on hand just in case?

We use Ecos free and clear for everything. Diapers, baby clothes, adult clothes, towels, everything. My baby did not break out in a rash, and neither do I for that matter. Most commercial detergents give me a horrible skin rash.

Don't worry, your instincts are fine! We use All Free and Clear or Tide Free and Gentle. Our LO actually does have super sensitive skin and she has never had a problem with either of those. DH is actually more sensitive to detergent than LO. :)

So I have a question for everyone about what laundry detergent you use for your baby. This will be my first, so I may be a little clueless about some things.

I was out baby shopping with my mom the other day when we walked by an aisle full of laundry detergent made just for babies. She told me not to forget to buy the special baby laundry soap.

I told her I planned on using the same detergent I use for my husband and I, which is All free and clear. I figured its hypoallergenic so it should be fine to use for the baby too. Well, my mom looked at me like I was crazy and told me that if I used anything other than the special baby detergent it would cause my baby to break out in a bloody rash. Really?

Is she right? Are the baby detergents that different or am I totally clueless?
