how high are your ceilings? If I were you, I would get something completely flushed to your ceiling. I have a fixture very similar to what you posted but it's above my dining table so it doesn't get abused....

I have similar fixtures in my foyer and in my closet. Neither spot takes as much abuse from the kids as their playroom...but they've definitely thrown things in the foyer that have had close calls with the light fixture and it hasn't broken (yet).

My kids have broken one of the blades on the ceiling fan in the playroom. I never liked having a ceiling fan in there anyway so now I'm glad to have an excuse to replace it with a light-only fixture. However, my husband thinks the one I have in mind will also get damaged/broken. So I'm wondering if the ladies here have any experience with this kind of light fixture, or if you have one in your play areas that you like and think is durable, I'm up for recommendations. Our main requirements are that it is NOT a built-in LED, and that it can take 4-5 bulbs. Thanks!

I like something like this. We also have a light on the ceiling between the sink and the stove that needs replaced. It needs at least three bulbs which posts a challenge.

The rest of our house is pretty traditional, but I am hoping to go a bit more rustic/modern!

I have fluorescent lights in my kitchen too. Gives it a nice, cozy institutional feel! (Kidding. But we rent, so they're going to stay, regardless of my feelings about them.)

I like the multiple-pendant idea, although I'd pick something smaller than the ones in the photos above so they'd be less intrusive. I don't much care for single pendants--they often read "interrogation room" to me, and I don't think I'd like that while washing dishes, you know? ;)

Oh, I like the 1st one that @prettylizy: posted. A bit wider but still has the pendant look. I don't think something like that would block the light or view!

Thanks Ladies! I love the pendant look but aren't sure with how it would look with the wide window. Plus, I wouldn't want it to block the view of the window.

I also have to figure out the blinds. The window faces the street so I guess I just need to put the mini blinds back up for now.

I'm with @Bookworm: I think a pendant light in that wide of a space might be too skinny and long.

I would do either something like this with the wider light fixture or multiple smaller pendants.

Hmm, I'm gonna be the odd one out and say pendant might be too obtrusive vertically, and too skinny. I vote for something like this :)

What kind of light do you have over the sink?

Any suggestions for us here? I am thinking a small pendant or something.
