We did these huge animal toddler markers around a year. They are pretty good with crayons at 18 mo, but they still go in the mouth sometimes :(

I was searching back for tips on first crayons @Cherrybee and your post made me LOL. I totally would've thought it sounded like a great idea pre-LO but now I can only laugh because no way would mine be contained in a pool :)

We always have to put something in her hands for diaper changes now or she goes nuclear. We give her her toothbrush, blocks, her socks, anything that will stop the crying and screaming. And when she doesn't like the object you give her she throws it. It actually makes us both laugh to see her little temper.

@looch: hahaha. I have resorted to animal sounds - "What's a cow say? A cow says Moooooo" but even that doesn't help sometimes!

@littlek: "it's awesome." Yup. I'm there with you. Know what is also awesome? When she decides she doesn't want to be on the floor anymore. Nowhere is better than in her mom's arms, whether I am cooking over a hot stove or peeing. If I don't hold her? Flailing and whining and following me...then flopping. Oh yeah.

Subscribing. My LO is obsessed with these wooden blocks lately, so it seems that if he is holding them, then the world is a better place and he might - just MIGHT - tolerate a diaper change.

Now that LO is almost one, he has a stubborn streak that is coming out. He is almost impossible to get dressed in the morning, he flails his arms, cries, arches his back. It's awesome. LOL. I have to keep telling myself to be patient, but it can be sooooo frustrating. How do you keep your cool during temper tantrums?

My LO will scribble once or twice and then proceed to eat the crayon. :) I bought him the toddler Crayola crayons (the ones that are egg-shaped to develop a proper grasp) and those were even worse because he would continually take them apart, gnaw on the crayon part and render them useless.

We do have an aquadoodle that he likes that is not messy at all and helps to develop pre-printing skills.

Ooh, ooh! I have a tip about messy play I heard the other day! Buy a cheap paddling pool..... then you can do arts and crafts like finger painting in the paddling pool (inside the house - with no water in it) and it stops your house getting covered in paint!

@Bao: Yea, he does that in daycare but I don't want to do anything really messy at home (we have hard wood floors and white berber carpet). So, I was thinking coloring would be cleaner option.

On yesterday's daycare sheet, they said that B was able to use a jumbo crayon on his own. This got me thinking, should I get him crayons, so we can do art projects at home? So, question, what age did your LO start using jumbo crayons?
