I used regular maxi pads with wings as soon as I got home. I brought a bunch of the mesh panties and pads from the hospital but I was more comfortable in the regular ones.

I also used a small mattress pad both in bed and on the couch, just in case I leaked.

I asked for extras of everything when I was at the hospital so
I stocked up there. Also ask for the basins and anything else you can get your hands on. We ended up getting like 2
Or 3 bags of stuff to bring home. We even got this awesome thermometer they used on LO in the NICU. It was like Christmas!

I used one pack of Depend-type disposable underpants before switching to pads but regular overnight pads would have been fine. I felt a bit foolish with so much waste, while cloth diapering LO!

I used the GIANT hospital pads in the hospital, but regular overnight pads for the first few days at home. Then I switched to Always Infinity. The material is more cloth-like as opposed to mesh-like... much easier on the lady bits.

@sweetchic: I had a cesection & bleeding lasted for 5-5.5 weeks postpartum. The 6th week, I had some discharge, then started my period at 7 weeks PP!

@sweetchic: it varies really. I had a lot of little tears and bled a lot after delivery. I still was spotting at 5 weeks PP, but heavy bleeding lasted about 2 or 3 weeks (it's only been three months and I already forget!}.

I used some generic brand my husband brought home. They were ginormous and worked perfectly. :-) Granny panties FTW.

I had the Always overnight, and the Always infinity long, and I much preferred the infinity, because they are so much more thin and comfortable. I had a c-section though, so I had less bleeding than you would have after a vaginal delivery.

The hospital pads were great, they showed me how to overlap them to wear two at a time. When I came home, I used always maxi pads

I read several blogs that recommended Always Extra Heavy Overnight Maxi pads with Flexi Wings. They are massive but did the job, especially in the early days when bleeding was really heavy. I preferred the hospital's method of protection and using two of their pads, but I went through my stash quickly once I got home.

I used the giant hospital pads/mesh panties combo for the first week home from the hospital. After that, I used a box of Always Infinity Overnight, and now I'm just using normal Always pads (I'm 2.5 weeks post partum). I think I'll just use normal pantyliners after this box runs out.

I wished I had took more of the pads from the hospital (huge blue ones and smaller orange ones). I bled A LOT and felt like my couch and bed were more protected in those. After that, I bought the biggest pads I could find. I like infinity best normally, but was going through so many that I just bought the cheaper ones (stayfree I think). The bulkier they were, the less they seemed to leak. Ugh. PP bleeding was something I was so unprepared for!

I bought a pack of depends but they were too big, and (TMI) the blood was really clotty so the depends hardly worked. At the hospital I used their pads, and when I got home, I used the "heavy flow" pads that are super long for "overnight" and just changed them often. Worked great.

For those ladies who have given birth already, what pads did you use to manage your postpartum bleeding? Were menstrual period pads enough? The ones in the hospital look strange (the ones that I saw when working there, at least). I've heard that Poise pads could work too.

I'm at 35 weeks and just trying to prepare! I bought Always Infinity to bring with me to the hospital, but I'm looking for other recommendations!
