thank you all! this is great!

@snowjewelz & @Bubbles: SLEEPING WITH IT! Brilliant! I had never heard of that- thank you!

@Mrs Green Grass: Ah, smart! I'm not sure we've pulled out the A&As since he swaddle weaned - I wonder if we used it more he would have attached to it! Thanks for this idea!

@erind425: Oh great idea! He's at the 'get really antsy and somewhat whiney' stage of diaper changes but he is beginning to get freaked by bathroom/outside the home diaper changes. This is a great idea - thanks so much!

@catlady: ok, good to know! I also kind of want to help him select the lovey, lol, so it's not something insane! I will try holding and then placing it next to him directly -thanks!

@pregnantbee: that's good to know about the multiples! perhaps if I just happen to have them around a lot, he'll eventually gravitate/decide on his own. thanks!

@Anagram: yes, same same ones! and that's freaking adorable.

@FaithFertility: oh the carseat is a great idea! he already loves to play with/put in his mouth the stroller blanket we use, so this could be a natural transition. thank you!

We introduced around 6 months (also the small A&A lovey blankets with the satin trim), and would just give it to her during feedings and at bed and nap times. At first, she didn't care about it either way, but around 9-10 months, she began to get really attached.

Now, at 19 months, it's like a bedtime treat for her to get her blankey and paci at the same time. She gets SO excited to see them and immediately cuddles up with them.

I also never tried very hard. He took to it most after we weaned off the pacifier around age 2. But, man, is my almost 3 yo still attached to his lovey. We have an Angel Dear one....and actually probably have about 6? He doesn't freak out if he sees more than 1 at the same time. He loves them all equally.

We had alot of trouble introducing a lovey at first but now she actually has two. The way we tried was to have me hold the lovey while she'd nurse, and then we'd put it in her crib with her afterwards. We tried A&A swaddles first, then a toy similar to the angel dear ones, and neither of those worked. At some point, I decided to try again with a jellycat and she finally took to it. But at the same time, she also become attached to a different stuffed toy on her own (I actually dislike that one so I was definitely not encouraging her!). So I'm not really sure if my method worked at all or if she was just ready to find one on her own and happened to like the jellycat that I chose.

Is he at the freak-out-during-diaper-changes stage yet? We successfully introduced a lovey for nighttime sleep/naps around 4.5 months without much effort, but we've recently started giving it to him during diaper change freakouts and it works great then then too. (He's almost 7 months.) I've also been giving it to him in the car on the way home from our nanny share (he hates the car) and it helps then too.

(We have multiple of the angel dear loveys, probably similar to the A&A ones.)

I didn't try very hard, but he never took to either of the jelly cats I bought him. :( his lovey is definitely his blanket (which actually was there for all sleeping and feedings...). It's really nice though because all of his A&A blankets are interchangeable as a lovey. He doesn't just need one specific one.

First of all I slept with it for a few nights to try and make it smell of me. Then we had it during feedings, and I'd put it in the cot with him for naps and at bedtime (I took it out when we went to bed for a while). We introduced it around 5 months, but I wouldn't say he really started to love it until about 9 or 10 months. It doesn't come out of the cot but he gets a lot of comfort from it now at 15mo.

How did you successfully get your little one to love his/her lovey?

I recently bought Will an A&A lovey, in an effort to help him have something to calm down with to nap (working on naptime over here!) I have a Jellycat (rhino) too that we've had since birth, which I thought would be his lovey but I'm wondering if the blanket will work better.

I've heard the following works, but I'd love additional insights:
1. hold the lovey during feedings
2. offer every nap
3. offer when crying/upset
