@Seattlemom: I didn't take any herbs. Last time I had to go on domperidone at 6 weeks, this time I haven't needed to. I'm really not sure why my output is different this time around! I started pumping around the same time, but maybe it's because I'm using a double pump?

I had low supply issues with LO1, and things have been a lot better with LO2. We got off to a rocky start because he was a SUPER lazy/sleepy feeder (and he just didn't want to feed!). But i rented a hospital grade pump (my pump broke) and it's made a world of a difference. I can pump 5oz in 15 minutes, where with LO1 it took me multiple sessions (25 minutes+) to get the same output. I found that pumping as soon as my milk came in helped a lot.

@Seattlemom: I'll let you know in a few weeks!

Totally not trying the pumping thing, though, except maybe the day or two before my scheduled c-section. I think I'm nearly the only person in the world who does not want to go into labor early if the "inducing contractions" thing is true.

Following because we similarly had a rough go at nursing due to low supply. We're able to get through a year, but that was with tons of pumping and getting milk from friends who had oversupply. Hoping this time around it's better! I hadn't heard of pumping towards end of pregnancy, but in curious if anyone has tried it!

So you didn't do anything special- just started pumping at day 3? Did you ob/midwife give you any suggested while you were preg, based on your last experience?

@Seattlemom: it was terrible. I would only pump 5--7 oz a day at work MAX. I weaned at 10 months to wcm because I was pregnant again anyway.

Seriously, I have about 100-200 oz in my freezer now!!! It's crazy.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: It is so stressful but was super duper important to me, as for lots of moms. My lo was a great nurser but I was constantly concerned about my supply. We ended up supplementing with formula at 6 months and exclusively to formula by 9 mo.

@illumina: yes I am hoping for a better experience next time too! I hope we both get that!

@matador84: wow your supply is crazy now? and was low with your first? That's so awesome. When I pumped at work with my lo the most I ever got was 9oz and that was from pumping 3 times and usually it was less then that.

A million times better. I pumped from about day 3 to relieve engorgement and started building a freezer stash. I pumped twice daily at work and get about 10 oz. with lo1, I was barely getting 5 and it was awful PLUS my DS refused formula. It was a nightmare. Dd has been completely ebf and she is 10 months. I would like to wean around 12-15 months but my supply is do crazy I don't really see an end in sight.

Following! We started off EBF, but started supplementing at 3.5mths due to weight loss, then switched to fully FF by 5mths. I hope to have a more successful experience next time around.

Ugh, BFinf my first was so stressful! We FF by the time she was 8 weeks but had ways supplemented.

Our second baby is almost 4 months and EBF. I take fenugreek and haven't noticed any supply issues, though I do obsess over supply since ihad so many problems the first time! We are doing so great though

It's amazing how different kids and experienced can be. I really don't know what is different this time. I didn't make any conscious changes.

This is a spin off from another post...if you had a low milk supply with your first baby, and you've had a second (or more), how was it the 2nd time around? Did you pump/hand express at then end of your pregnancy? Take any specific herbal supplements that helped?

I had a low milk supply with LO1 and am not preg again yet but it was so stressful, I'm thinking about what I can do to make it better the next time. I think I might have insufficient glandular tissue and have heard goats rue is a good herb to take but didn't know about it with LO1.

I used the regular MMP and E had the gassy reaction so I had to stop taking it. I took it for about a week, but didn't see much difference. Eating oatmeal, increasing my pumping sessions and power pumping in the evenings has helped me up my supply.

I had better success with the regular MMP rather than the Special Blend MMP with Goat's Rue but it really is individual so it is worth trying. From everything I've learned and dealt with personally, it is the fenugreek that can give the gas, not the goat's rue specifically so even MMP could give the gassy reaction.

I recently used the special blend with goats rue. It worked for me. It wasn't like overnight engorgement like some claimed, but I did notice a solid increase in my supply. I pump once a day to keep up my small freezer stash and went from being able to pump 1-2oz a night to 4-5oz.

Has anyone had success with goat's rue to increase milk supply?

I googled the motherlove brand supplements - more milk plus, etc. and came across their blend with goat's rue, which supposedly has the added benefit of helping build more milk producing breast tissue. Fenugreek and blessed thistle are helping me, but I'm still not able to feed my twins even half their diet in breastmilk, which is my goal. I think they each only get 1-2 oz from me at a time.

The reviews I found on amazon are mixed - worked for some, not for others, and others said it gave their babies bad gas. I don't want to give my babes a bad reaction, but I'd really love to be able to produce more milk for them.
