This happened to both my kids at their 4 or 6, I can't remember. Pretty sure it was the dtap too, but like others the red bump only lasted about a week. I remember my arm being really sore when I got mine years ago, so while their reaction bothered me, I knew it was pretty normal. One that lasts sooo long though would freak me out whatever the doctor said though :) I agree that spacing them out wouldn't hurt...thats what we do. Half at the checkup (usually the more easily communicable ones), and then we go back for a quick nurses visit a few weeks later for the rest. Hope LO feels better soon!

@TurtleDoves: They are not ok with spreading them out. I am presently looking for a new peds doctor. He is eating better recently, thank goodness. I just wish that bump would just go away. :/

@buffalove: ditto with us! I was concerned bc at the 6 month appt, you could still see the lump from the 4 month appt!!! And after the 6 month ones, she had a local reaction where it became a little raised and red... But it did start to get better after a few days, and by around one or two weeks, it was fine again.

She also spiked temps at 4 mos and 6 mos a full WEEK after. Gave Tylenol. She wasn't sick, just reacting to the shots. It gave me peace if mind, actually, that she was reacting to them... Those are normal side effects. I did call and let her doctor know though.

@MrsRcCar: did he eat less or more? My LO are less that day and the next. We're 4 days post shots and he is back to normal. Nolan should be acting normal by now if his shots were on the 4th :/ I remember you saying you wanted to spread out his hits so they aren't all at once---did your ped allow that?

@TurtleDoves: His nap schedule totally changed after his shots as well as his eating. He also had been little more fussy/clingy but it had calmed down mostly. He is still pretty clingy. He never spiked a fever though so I thought we were doing good. :(.

No advice other than I'd definitely be calling the pedi because that hasn't happened to my LO before. It sounds based on pp like it'll be ok though...

@rawrasaur: I wouldn't have mentioned it but it was red for nearly 2 weeks and the lump has stayed the same size. The doctor just said well we will just put a note in his chart....

LO had her 4 month shots April 1 and she also got a knot on one of her legs. It was very red for about 4 days, then it was just the knot which has slowly been decreasing in size. I'm not worried, never even mentioned it to her doctor, because I know it is normal.

This happened to DS at his 4 month shots - the bump was still there at 6 months! I wasn't bothered by it but DH was. At his 6 month visit, both the nurse and doctor said it wasn't a big deal, and it went away very shortly after.

I don't really have any suggestions for you other than to offer that it happened to us too!

I posted about this in the Oct 2012 boards but perhaps some other Bee's can shed some light on this.

I took N on April 4th for his 6 month appointment. Here it is April 22 and in the one leg he still has a lump and needle mark. The doctor is not at all concerned, in fact they said it was normal. I am not normally one to be too alarmed about a lot of things but this bothers me! When we arrived at the doctors office it wasn't there but it is now and hasn't gone away. He received the DTAP shot in that leg. It doesn't seem to bother DS at all but it bugs the heck out of me... :/

Does anyone have experience with this? Any suggestions?
