@littlek: Just saw this now.....had both. We weren't high risk, but my mom had a chromosomal abnormality with one of her pregnancies so we wanted to do it just in case. We did NT after the MaterniT21 just as a precaution-the genetic counselor we saw said they look for slightly different things. I live in California, and we get pretty subsidized prenatal testing, so we figured it couldn't hurt. I hadn't heard from many who'd done MaterniT21, so feel free to let me know if you have questions. We were very lucky to have both tests come back totally low-risk.

I only had NT - my MWs said they would order the M21 if (1) I wanted it, or automatically if (2) my NT results were questionable, or (3) I was over 35. I'll probably get it next time.

@bunnylovesbear: just for some extra reassurance, DS had several choroid plexus cysts plus another soft marker for the trisomies (a spot on his heart). We had the M21 test and it turned out to be nothing. They said they wouldn't even suggest the blood test if it was just the cysts, they were just concerned with the combination of two markers. So odds are in your favor!

@knittylady: thanks for the reassurance. We are feeling pretty optimistic about the whole thing because, like you said, couples with our low risk results in the early testing, it's very unlikely that there's anything wrong. When my nurse originally called with the results, she said something along the lines of, "you may have had something like this in one of your previous pregnancies..." I told her I hadn't, but I think she was trying to let me know how common it is and how uncommon the link to trisomy is. It's just troublesome bc a diagnosis of trisomy is a dire one, you know? Siiiigh. Hoping the long weekend doesn't delay my results. Tuesday will be one week, and I have a follow-up ultrasound that afternoon.

I had both. When I went in to do the NT scan, they asked if I wanted the M21 as well (I had a previous m/c due to a chromosomal abnormality). They did the blood draw on the same day and I got the results a weeks later.

My OB office doesn't even offer the NT scan. I had to ask to be referred to MFM to have it done. While I was there, the doctors/genetic counselor asked if I wanted the M21 test. They couldn't believe that my OB office hadn't told me my options regarding testing (ugh. don't even get me started).

@bunnylovesbear: DS had that cyst, and while it was terrifying to hear the correlations with trisomy 18, the actual risk when explained was very reassuring. One of DH's preceptors equated it to this: heartburn is common in pregnant women, but having heartburn isn't a good indicator that you are pregnant.

Wall me if you have any questions, rants or anything. We were anxious about it until LO came out, and were so relieved when everything was A-OK. :)

I just had the materniT21 test done last Tuesday...still awaiting the results. This is my 3rd pregnancy, but it's the first time I've needed this test. I had the NT done, which came back low risk for any abnormalities, but my anatomy scan showed a choroid plexus cyst. After a followup Level 2 u/s a week later, which showed the cyst again, I was given the options of an amnio or this blood test, if I felt it was necessary. We obviously opted for the non-invasive bloodtest and are anxiously awaiting the results. We are optimistic bc the doctor did not seem concerned at all, and honestly didn't push us to perform either followup test, which I found to be very reassuring. I feel like if she was concerned, she would have told me to get the blood test, not just tell me about it and let me choose. Idk. Either way, it's stressful, and we're hoping for the best.

My practice did both the MaterniT21 and NT scan. I think they do it on all patients unless you deny it. I was low risk, under 35 and on my second low risk pregnancy. And my insurance paid for both tests.

I had both. I insisted on doing the MaterniT21 as early as possible (10 weeks) and did the NT scan at 12. They weren't thrilled with me but I didn't care. As it turned out I was very happy I had the blood work done first as DS had a questionable neck thickness measurement. But since we already had the blood work back we knew there was pretty much zero chance there was anything to worry about.
