A puddle pad is another great alternative. http://www.naturaworld.com/products/classic-wool-puddle-pad/

We just stick it under her sheets and it's done a great job of protecting the mattress. It's a little pricey but we bought it during my FTM all organic/natural phase.

Ours is also from Ikea. It's terry on top of a thin plastic material, so you can't really tell you're on plastic once you have a fitted sheet covering it. I normally use 2 fitted sheets for normal changes, so I can't tell at all. It's also super cheap!

@shopaholic: we have this
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FOA7C2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s02

it is waterproof but relatively soft on top. and it's easy to pull off in the MOTN. when she was still having accidents once in awhile, we just put it on top of the fitted sheet (she slept directly on the pad) so that we didn't even have to change sheets in the MOTN, assuming the rest of the sheets/blankets were dry. now that she rarely has accidents, we moved it under the fitted sheet.

We use Oops sheets. We even have one on our bed - not hot at all! They absorb a tiny bit but we still put a thin towel between that andcthe fitted sheet in DS's bed in case of pee accidents (which he has about 1xmonth still)

We have two. One from the mattress store that warranties the mattress. It was pricey. And another from Kohls. Both absorb but Lo woke wet after her accidents. She didn't sleep for hours after. Having two was essential so we had a back up for MOTN.

@shopaholic: we bought a thick (not plastic or vinyl) cotton waterproof mattress cover from bed bath, the few times DS has had accidents it's been super absorbent to the point where it doesn't even feel damp, mattress is dry and no stink! And we just pull it off and throw in the wash! I think it was 40 or 50$ for our twin size one. Def worth it!

@shopaholic: hahah the mattress was definitely protected! Not sure if there are others that at least absorbs some of the pee and the waterproof layer is underneath the absorbent layer? Either way, if the pee isn't reaching the mattress then some or all of it is on your sleeping child!

And yes, fun times giving a shower at 3 in the morning!

@regberadaisy: hmm... that sounds kinda eww... lol :silly: We need a cover to protect this expensive mattress we just bought! lol and I don't want pee spilling down the sides if that's what a "waterproof" cover potentially does.

Not sure what your DH is expecting but the cover we have is a "waterproof" cover.
Twin Size SafeRest Classic Plus Hypoallergenic 100% Waterproof Mattress Protector - Vinyl Free https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B29B188/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_fAfOvbNH0AZ5N

But what happens is when there's an accident the pee sits on the cover. But then your kid is drenched in pee from head to toe....

My daughter runs HOT and usually sweats regardless but it has nothing to do with the cover.

Putting this under potty-training because that's where the concern lies?

We'll be moving LO into her new big girl bed soon. It's a Full size, if that matters. She is potty-trained and staying dry overnight and during naps, though I still try to put her in diapers for sleep. She is increasingly refusing to wear the diapers for sleep.

I scored a really nice mattress pad cover for half price, but it only says "stain resistant" and repels spills. DH thinks it's not sufficient and we need a "waterproof" cover. From what I've heard, the waterproof are really not breathable and get hot/sweaty? What do you think?

What do you have for your toddler and effectiveness? Any links to recommendations appreciated!

So my sister is asking me about an organic natural wool waterproof mattress pad that she is thinking of getting me. I'm not sure what company, but she says it's in CA. Are there any risks associated with wool mattress pads, compared to the regular ones at BRU? Allergy or SIDS risks? I'm not sure how thick it is.

Also, I live in central TX, so it's warm 80% of the year. Would a wool pad be too hot?

Thanks!
