@Mum: Thank you. A lot of my support comes from this site. I have outed myself on FB and gotten a lot of support, too. Some days I wonder how I'm still sane after all this waiting.

My OB put in an order for DH's first semen analysis. It was super easy and we had been trying for about 7 months at the time. You should be able to ask his family practice provider for an order, but if you feel like you need more specialized help you can certainly go to a urologist or reproductive endocrinologist for an order as well.

Our OB also put in the order for the SA. The practice I go to is connected to a larger hospital and an RE office, so they just wrote the order to their own lab. OB's office also gave us a pretty comprehensive handout about what to expect.

My sweetie asked his GP, the GP referred to a local urologist. Both the visit and the lab fees were covered by his insurance. We had been trying for 6mos at that point and expected that any hurdles we were facing were female factors due to pain/problems I was having, but, we figured we would check.

@bluestriped bee: thanks for sharing. I don't know about you, but I never imagined TTC would be so hard. When we first started and I read about other women on here trying for 6 months, I thought, "wow, that's so long." And then at the 6mo. mark, I couldn't see myself still trying for a whole year and now I am one cycle away from completing a year... For you at two years... I imagine(hope) you have a good support system! Good luck to you and your DH. :goodluck:

We actually went to a urologist after 3 months of TTC but only because DH had a varicocele and we wanted to make sure that wasn't a problem. The wait to get in wasn't very long (we went to a large urology clinic), in case that's an issue. But I think your OB can also order the test! If you're concerned and want to have him try other supplements, Fertilaid is not bad...my DH took it for a few months and maybe it was coincidence but his SA improved. Hope everything goes well for you!

My OB suggested that we see an fertility clinic after 6 months of trying (plus DH's medical history). In the workup at the RE, they requested a Sperm Analysis. Here we are 2 years later still TTC our first.

To answer your question, if your OB recommends you see any RE, the RE's office can do a SA. If there are issues there, then they would refer your DH to see a urologist.

My OB wrote the order for my husband to get his SA at the lab at one of our hospitals. It was simpler than getting established as a new patient at a urologist. We had been trying for over a year at that point, but I'm not sure if that was a pre-requisite for the test at my dr's office.

This might be a dumb question- but what kind of doctor does my DH have to go to for a semen analysis? General Practitioner? Urologist? Other? Do you have to wait until after trying for one year? We just started the 12th cycle. Any advice to go with the male side of TTC? He takes vitamins and a zinc supplement. Thanks!

For our stocking, we like to fill them with gift cards, small sized items like electronic accessories, new pens, lotions, chapstick, socks, undies, etc. We also like to get some spice rubs, sauces, and similar items because we love to cook.

For budget items, what are his interests/hobbies? I love thrift shops and Goodwill for kitschy, one of the kind little things. They've got books there, sometimes they have things like sets of golf balls or gardening items, glassware (so you could get some mini bottles of alcohol for his fave drink and a vintage shot glass or cocktail glass), ornaments, records, etc. Sometimes they (or a Dollar Tree type store) might have razors on sale, shaving mirror, nice men's soap, etc.

I usually put snacks or treats in his stocking to fill it up some more. Especially things that we don't typically buy or only he likes - for him it's mostly asian snacks like shrimp chips or spicy squid, but also little things like snickers or corn nuts or beef jerky.

I also find an ornament for the tree that's related to something special we did that year. Like the year we honeymooned in NYC, I got him an ornament of the empire state bldg. He always puts a mini frame ornament with the year and a photo in my stocking too.

I'm trying to fill my husbands Stocking this year on a budget. It's a bit of a challenge! Last year I was ordering free things from Vistaprint for the wedding, and got him a free hat and t-shirt to put in, as well as notebooks and pens. But this year, I can't budget for the shipping costs.
I WISH I had thought to keep some of the freebies I got in the mail a secret, then I could have put the deodorant and razor in there at no cost!

Here's the list of ideas so far, and no, I'm not stuck on any of them:
toothbrush
favourite candy- M and m's
socks
$5 Tim Horton's Card
Lottery Ticket
Boxers
chapstick
gloves
t-shirt?
car airfreshener
earplugs (for work)
homemade "coupons"

What do you like to put in your SO's Christmas stocking?
