If you stay in the resort only, the water will be fine. But if you head out of the resort, only drink bottled water and make sure the cap hasn't been opened before. Do not even use ice in your drinks. I learned the hard way. :(

See what the hotels have--ours had baby food, cribs, sand toys, baby toys, bottle warmers, monitors, and strollers we could borrow. So we didn't have to bring anything.

I would bring some water shoes....E *hated* the feel of sand on her feet and it was really difficult to give her a shower because we had no bath in our room, and she freaked out and I worried about her slipping. We had brought crocs, but I really wish I had some better shoes for her. The tile just isn't the best for little kids, but it's all over the place there.

Bring lots of bug spray, sunblock....E's favorite things were to throw a ball in the pool. Over and over. Some of those $1 rafts were good, too. A couple of swimsuits are good, too--ours never totally dried out from the night before, so it was nice to have a few pairs. Plus it's not like she wore it all day. She'd be in it for a few hours, out for lunch and stuff and her nap, back in it, then back out for her nap, then back in it...baby powder to get the sand off her. She also liked the cheapo beach balls. Those were a blast for her.

I would check and see what your transfer to the hotel is: is it a van, taxi, bus? If there are no seatbelts or Latch, it might not make sense to bring the car seat.

We went to Playa del Carmen with our DD when she was a little over a year old. The staff loved her, I don't think they got a lot of little kids there.
The only thing we weren't aware of was that our room was completely tiled. Our DD fell in our room and it was kind of scary. She was fine, but I would check with your insurance about what happens if your are out of the country and an accident happens. Hopefully everything will be fine, but it is always better to be prepared.
We got a crib from the hotel, but it had slats broken out of it so it wasn't the safest thing. If you use the hotels stuff, be prepared for it to not always be completely up to what you're used to.

Agree with PP. Most hotels have pack and plays and high-chairs so if you reserve in advance, you shouldn't have any problems.

We purchased a very light-weight car seat (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=23529196&cagpspn=plab_16688580&camp=PLAPPCG-_-PID16688580:BRUS&eESource=CAPLA_DF:23529196:TRUS) for our kids since we travel a lot. The first time we traveled we took our big Graco carseat and it was so heavy and such a PIA.

We also purchased a wifi cam so that we can be in the lounge or lobby and watch our kids.

Not sure if there are mosquitos or not, but bring baby safe bug spray and itch cream. We were being bit like crazy and thankfully a friend had something baby safe, otherwise we were debating getting some bug spray from the gift shop and we had no idea what the ingredients were.

I would bring a baby carrier for Tulum--much easier than a stroller. I would also make sure to bring a wide brimmed hat for LO. And baby powder--makes it super easy to get sand off.

We went to Cancun when our LO was 9 months. We took 2 crib sheets for the crib the hotel provided, a noise machine (ipod plugged into wall), and a fold up travel float for the pool. We also took lots of food pouches to supplement what we felt was okay for him to eat. I also bought throw away paper bibs to avoid laundry. Our hotel had plenty of high chairs on hand at all the restaurants.

I bought a baby sunblock stick that was awesome and easy to put on ears and face. He lived in his rashguard and a diaper while outside, and then onesies inside. Have fun!

My only piece of advice, though it's not kid-specific, is that Tulum is a 45 minute ferry ride and then a 45 minute car/bus ride from Cozumel. Tulum is gorgeous, but it is a bit of a hike from Cozumel.

ETA: if you do go to Tulum, Sunday is a good day to go, because there are no cruise ships in port on Sundays. Tulum is packed with cruise ship visitors most days from about noon on.
ETA again... sorry, can you tell I  Cozumel?? If you're looking for another fun thing to do, rent a car and drive to the east side of the island. It's only a 20 minute drive and there's nothing out there (no electricity) except a few rustic bar/restaurants and beautiful vacant beaches. There's also a national park on the southern tip of the island, with a lighthouse, snorkeling, a beach, crocodiles, etc.

We're going to Cancun Mexico for a week when LO is 9 months old. We're flying into the Cozumel airport. Staying at an all inclusive resort, the Park Royal Cozumel. DH's parents are meeting us there, and will be staying in a separate room at the resort. Hoping to possibly do a day trip to Tulum, but other than that, we're hoping to just hang out.

Any general advice? What to pack/What not to pack? Big stuff like car seat/stroller/clip on chair/pnp? Anything I may not think of?

@ChitownRo: we went to Cozumel last summer when my daughter was 15/16 months, and it was a blast! She is a picky eater, so we brought lots of pouches, crackers, etc. The resort was all-inclusive, so we let her try things from the restaurants as well. She ate like 5 bananas a day... she loved them! No issues with the milk or juice either.

@ChitownRo: The Superama chain usually has organic milk in tetra pack (shelf stable) if you don't want to bring with you. Eggs shouldn't be a problem but for soy I would watch out for soybean oil- often used for frying, and in flour tortillas. I'm sure you can just ask- the Westin usually has great service. I'm jealous! Have a great trip!

We took our 15 month old and the milk probanly wasn't organic but no biggie for a few days. E loved all the fruit. And the hotel had baby food, which she actually ate some of (despite not eating at home anymore) and also liked the grilled ham and cheese sandwiches, chips, and guacamole. Also the smoothies.

Bring shoes for the beach-the sand freaked E out!

We are going to the Westin in Cancun in two weeks just for a long weekend. My LO will be 14 months- anyone travel to Mexico with a one year old? Any advice? He is allergic to eggs and soy so I am a little worried about food. I think I will bring tons of pouches, oatmeal and just order lots of grilled chicken. Not sure what to do about the WCM... Normally drink organic but not sure if that is available there. Sorry for a rambling post without a clear focus..
