The second pic looks great! She may be sitting a little high up on you- but looks secure. Loved the moby with baby #1, she lived in it till about 10 months old. Baby #2 I used a k'tan and LOVED that too

@PawPrints: for my newborns, wraps were for sleeping and not much else! But a sleeping baby is a happy one I'm sure she likes it!

@jedeve: Thanks, sliding the fabric over my shoulders does feel a lot better.

I guess the Moby is a tentative hit with LO because so far she has conked out asleep for a good long nap every time I put her in it. She does get really cranky when she wakes up though. Hopefully that's just a matter of needing a feeding/diaper change post-nap and not a matter of disliking the wrap.

@PawPrints: looks good! It might just be because you have your hands up to take the picture, but If you scoot the fabric over your shoulders/away from your neck, you might fice baby a little more airflow and distribute the weight a bit better.

Thanks everyone, I think it was indeed too loose. I started out easily able to kiss her but she sank down lower after a while. I'll pull more tight and snug when I wrap her today. Glad to know we have it mostly correct.

Looks good to me! Sometimes I found when I had already gotten baby in and the shoulders were a bit loose, I could just flip the shoulder straps under. Does that make sense? It's one of the examples on the instructions, I remember.

It looks like you are doing fairly well. I think you would benefit from wrapping it tighter before tucking baby in, it will help smooth out some of the wrinkly areas. Also, try to make it lay as flat as possible when you are wrapping it and it may be more comfortable through the waist for uou. Neither though is a safety issue, just a comfort thing. To get knees higher gently push the soles of baby's feet up and in and spread the pass out more under the knees. The fabric should extend all the way to the bend of the knee.

Enjoy the snuggles!

Legs are fine, I think... it is a little hard to tell from this angle but as long as knees are higher than the bottom of the bum you're good. I think over all you could tie it a bit tighter though. And possibly a little higher, but it is hard to tell without your head in the photo. In general you know your baby is high enough if you can easily kiss the top of his head without bending over. I think it sort of depends on your body but I always found I was tying too low/loose when I followed the youtube videos that show you to start your wrap with the middle marker at your belly button. For me, I wrapped the top edge of the moby half way between my belly button and the bottom of my boobs. And I always wrapped it a little tighter than it seems like I should, with not a ton of slack. The wrap is so stretchy you really don't need much slack in it before you put the baby in.

We stopped using the ergo insert around 3.5 months I think? We did legs out in the moby around 8 wks I think. He was MUCH more comfortable that way.

@Mrs Green Grass: That's exactly what I did when we first stopped using the ergo insert--it felt like a bit much to have his legs so spread immediately. Do you have the pillow part that came with the insert? You can put that under his butt.

Great timing for a post (for me!). For me it's tricky because lo is really small for 4 months, only 11 pounds 9 ounces, but he's pretty long.

I've been doing legs out in the k'tan for about a month. It felt like he would fall out in the newborn position.

In Ergo I stopped using the insert at least a month ago and would just have his feet rest on the top of the waist belt, knees splayed. It worked really well. But I'm just at the point where that didn't feel right and I'm experimenting with legs out. It's not quite right yet...I almost feel like he needs a little seat under his butt. But he was getting too tall with his legs in.

I stopped using the insert around 2 months/14 lbs. He did better with me than with DH at first, because I'm more narrow. Now at almost 4 months, he's fine with whomever. I actually "splayed" his legs with the insert at probably 6 weeks or so because he seemed to be more comfortable that way than with his knees all up. I say do whatever feels most comfortable for both of you (she'll let you know if she doesn't like it!).

For those of you who baby-wear, when did you start doing legs splayed-out kinds of positions? The instructions say "when baby is fully stretching legs"- I'm confused. I think K's been stretching her legs since she was born?

If you used the Ergo, when did you stop using the infant insert?
K is still too young I think to go without the insert, but she's always flexing her legs now, when I try to put her in the K'tan. and ends up sliding sometimes in the Ergo Infant Insert.
ETA: I should say not sliding out of the Ergo, but she kind of wants to straighten herself in the insert sometimes.

@BananaPancakes; Yep. Total sense. Try this: with the arm that is on the same side as he is, hold him under the armpits (your arm is wrapping around his back, so your hand is under his one arm). Lift him up slightly. With your other hand, grab the ring part and tug/shimmy it until it is back up by your shoulder. I will make a video for you some time today, since I am doing such a lousy description! We will get this fixed.
