I'm so glad I found this thread! I started weaning my 25 month old LO 3 weeks ago, and I'm so worn out from the hormonal roller coaster. Any advice on how long this lasts? I actually have morning sickness again and an aversion to smells like the first trimester.

@septca: whaaaaaaaat?! So....... who's baby is it........ :meh:

@.twist.: I dropped one pumping session, but still have 2 in place and I comfort nurse him to sleep. I want to drop another pumping session soon, but my boobs get so full they feel bruised once I do pump. ouch. Not looking forward to the hormones that follow with weaning. First it was tough starting to breastfeed, and now it's tough to STOP breastfeeding. Is there an express lane somewhere for something easy?? No? Okay. Thought I'd try. :silly:

@JoJoGirl: Go SLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWly. I did not. But I lived to tell the tale.

@tinyperson: Yeah, probably not. But cautionary tale... one of my best friends just weaned so she could start TTC #2. She was going to acupuncture to get her period back. One night last week, she and her husband got into a big fight because she was being PMSy and he said, "You're really acting pregnant, you need to take a test." And she was like, "Dude, you have to BD to get KU..." Well, guess what? 5 positive HPTs later...

Totally normal.

Weaning throws your hormones all out of whack and it is NOT FUN.

Depression, mood swings, extreme PMS-y behavior... all normal. So are nausea, headaches, dizziness... weaning is *so* much fun. :bummed:

BUT there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Once you are out, you get your body back, your drive may come back, you may be better able to lose weight, you may sleep better. I loved BFing, I am glad we did as long as we did, etc., but - *man* - I am happy it's over.

I just weaned, but unintentionally — we'd been at morning and night feeds since 12.5 months. LO had a cold last week, and was teething so Saturday night she refused, and hasn't wanted it since. I kept offering till yesterday, but I'm calling us done now. She was 18 months old yesterday, so I'm happy with how far we got.

I really haven't noticed any major mood swings so far, but I haven't been sleeping well, so maybe the hormones are at play in a different way for me? Sorry I don't have more advice!

Yes! I had a lot of depression and symptoms similar to the first trimester when I weaned earlier this year. They were pretty extreme and took my by surprise. It all slowly went away over the next few weeks. Apparently it is normal, but not talked about a lot.

I have been weaning L for the past couple weeks. Dropping a feeding a week. We are down to one morning feed.

As far as weaning goes, I'm so happy with how it's going. I have struggled with our breastfeeding relationship in it's entirety. So, to finally be finished is a relief. Which seems to be a rare feeling as far as I have seen in regards to breastfeeding.

However, I have been feeling extremely emotional about EVERYTHING ELSE. Last night dh was annoyed with me about something so small, and normally I would just shrug it off and move on with our night, but I broke down crying and started to wonder why he's even with me if I can't even keep the house tidy. Hello crazy! Now, today, I got a call from an old friend who I haven't seen in a little over a year and I feel like today is the best day ever.

I have been having mood swings like this for the past week and it is really starting to get to me.

Is this normal? Did anyone else notice major mood swings while weaning? What did you do to help keep them under control?

I am normally a very calm, level headed person and this crazy woman that cries over song lyrics is driving me nuts!
