I struggle with movie nights because it cuts into my alone time. We probably do one every 6 weeks. We also still have pretty little kids, who can be sensitive, so sometimes its hard to find a movie that works for everyone.

That said. We always take a break half way through for popcorn, and I try to have juice or something special for them to drink. Lately we've been into audio books in the car, so when we finish one of those that has a movie we are going to have a "movie party." We just finished listening to Charlie and the Chocolate factory, so for our next movie night we will make brownies and watch that.

Aww, I love all of these ideas. It has me so excited to start this tradition. I might play around with a few of these ideas and see what sticks with my kids :)

While our tradition isn't a longstanding one, it has been fun! Since covid hit and we aren't going many places, we have started to 'go to the movies' at home.

I got little popcorn buckets. The kids draw a poster (we pick the movie together). I made tickets and a concession stand and we each get a budget to spend at concessions.

It is silly, a big treat and a lot of fun!

We do this! We started over a year ago when my son began “real” school (PreK). If he successfully sleeps in his bed all week, he gets Friday night family movie night where he chooses a movie and sleeps with us. It’s been a hit! He looks forward to Friday all week. When he stops wanting to do it someday I’ll die 😭

We do pizza and movie just about every Friday. We used to do homemade pizza more often, but now it's just delivery. We try to rotate who picks the movie between the adults and DS, but to be honest, it sometimes depends on how much I want to avoid an argument about whether we can watch 1 of maybe 4 movies he tends to choose.

We often do two movie nights a week. They get popcorn. On fridays the kids pick the movie, I pick on saturdays. They stick with kid movies or Star Wars (always Star Wars...). I regularly show them classics (black and white, silent movies, classic musicals etc) which they have learned to love.

A couple of times this year, we also did a special movie night with tickets I printed online and candy, because they missed going to the movie theater.

We do pizza and a movie every Friday! We make the pizzas homemade so my boys get to put on their own toppings. We choose each movie as a family (but they are still little, so this might evolve?) We all look forward to it every week! :)

We do movie night and Breakfast for Dinner every Friday night. We try to agree on a movie together but sometimes parents pick to curb the fighting ha.

We don’t do it regularly, more as a special treat, but we do do movie days - the kids get popcorn and some candy, we bring the Nugget Comfort upstairs and set it up in front of the tv, and shut the curtains. Sometimes I pick the movie, sometimes we let them, although they have to agree on something.

We do movie night every Friday. We get take out and eat dinner in front of the tv. This can be messy so we might start the movie upstairs with dinner and then pause to head down to our basement where we have the big tv/sound system. We take turns picking out movies. Sometimes that goes well and other times not. :) My friend does a similar thing with her family but on Sundays.

We have a projector so I wanted to start doing this outside in the summer but it gets dark too late right now for their bedtimes. However, it'll be great for spring and fall. We had warm rush this past weekend and made a mini drive in movie but projecting on our garage. We pulled the car in backwards and let the boys lie in there with pillows and blankets. DH and I sat outside of the car. It was awesome! Post covid, I see this being a neighborhood thing!

My other thread about holiday movies got me thinking that I'd love to have a regular movie night tradition with my kids. Growing up we watched Lois and Clark and ate popcorn every Sunday evening and I remember how much I loved that.

So, do you have any movie night traditions? How regularly do you do it? Who picks the movie? Any foods that go along?
