So I am compound A&Cmutation, and my husband has a single C mutation. We have not tested my son, but he could possibly by compound homozygous. He is perfect - has no issues what so ever. He did have toungue tie (but who doesn't) and he did have umbilical hernia - which is minor.

I have had no problems conceiving. First try with my first, first try then miscarriage, then pregnant again on our third month trying (and I was 39)

I met with a hematologist and she said mthfr is a little controversial. The medical community thought it was a big deal at first, and now have slightly backed off the idea.

Having said that, I try to make smoothies for my son that contain folate (spinach) - as most kids vitamins have folic acid. And I sneak liver into meatballs and meatloaf (it's high in folate) And when he was a baby and I was more concerned I did a lot of magnesium salt baths for "detox" help.

I am by no means a medical professional - but this is what I have taken away from it all.

Good luck!

@mrswin: I just learned what a sugarbug is today. I'm very new at this. It's a prominent, well visible vein between the eyes and is supposedly another marker of this mutation. Learning about this is pretty confusing so far, but fro searching the boards here, it seems like a common issue for women dealing with infertility. Here's a site that has been slightly easier for me to understand that goes over the mutation - https://www.dietvsdisease.org/mthfr-mutation-symptoms-and-diet/

@peaches1038: I can't help with your question but my DD was born with a deep sacral dimple and a stork bite. What is a sugar bug? Could you link to where you are reading about this? It took us 3 years to have her and we needed IVF

DS was born with several signs of a MTHFR mutation- sacral dimple, lip and tongue tie, stork bite and sugar bug. Thankfully, I did not have any trouble conceiving as I know know that can be a big factor. I'm just now learning about this mutation and am a little overwhelmed. I am going to order the 23andme test for DS, DH and myself. Is it easy to interpret those results? Does anyone have experience with how this gene mutation has affected their children, especially in their behavior? Are there any supplements that are recommended?
