I’m only allowed to sing sometimes. In the car is usually a “mommy don’t sing!” although once in a while I’ll get him to sing along to something. I will say he’s a great little singer when he wants to sing. he doesn’t mind it when i sing in our music class or at bedtime. I remind him to ask nicely and sometimes with oblige him and sometimes I will tell him that I am going to sing anyway. I refuse to let him dictate everything all the time, so I sig sometimes even though it would be easier to stop so he wouldn’t scream at me. Like sings all the time when he’s happy and relaxed and playing. DH also loves to sing, but gets in trouble ALL.THE.TIME from DS for singing. And he prefers to talk in the car but will occasionally tolerate the radio and sometimes likes to pick CDs from the library. He loves listening to music and singing. But other people are only allowed to sign requests (made by him) and occasionally sing along to the radio. We are, under no circumstances allowed to spontaneously break into song or sing along with just him. Preschoolers are strange creatures... :silly:</p> <p>ETA. She will randomly sing songs she has apparently picked up at pre k, but hates it when DH or I try to sing with her. She only sings spontaneously. She doesn’t like the radio. However she does like jingles on some commercials and is obsessed with “singing in the rain” so we watch the movie clip sometimes on YouTube and she occasionally sings (the gene Kelly version, so weird). Toddlers are bizarre creatures. I mean, he's fine with me singing him lullabies or nonsense songs (lalalalala type thing), so it must just be in the car.</p> <p>Nope, he doesn't like me singing outside of bedtime or turning on Pandora at home while I work. It is a little funny to watch him tell me "SHHHHH" everytime I sing a little phrase.</p> <p>But he is just fine with instrumental music. Anyone else have a kids like this? I think buying a cheap CD player and checking out the CD selection at our local library is probably what I'll do. But even CDs seem to be going to the way of the dinosaurs. My laptop doesn't even have a CD drive anymore. It was one that I had gotten for free from somewhere...but it's not any specific brand name. You could buy on iTunes and burn to cds if iTunes sells stories on cds. The tapes were just songs and books on tape that she'd check out from the local library. What is today's equivalent of that??? Technology was supposed to make life easier, but I don't feel like sticking the expensive Bose wireless player in my son's room and monkeying around with trying to find audio tracks on Spotify or iTunes. I'm nostalgic for the days when you could just pop in a tape and hit play. I'd love any suggestions for a simple nighttime music/audio routine!
