@artbee: cute room!
@MsInformation: that room sounds awesome!
@MegWag: nice!
@blackbird: we had chi-o at my school :) my sorority mascot is a teddy bear sort of, so that's not very original for a baby room, lol.

@TheSwissWifeStyle, YES, i was a chi o :) I let my sorority sisters get me all the owl stuff, ha. And yes, my cat is a superb photo bomber

@mrsjets, i LOVE stripes! That would be a nice wall for #2, since you have squares for #1 :)

@redsmarties, the one on the changing table? Target!

Our nursery is a mix between the two. Our crib bedding is purple with a big tree and some owls sitting in it, which is kind of cartoony. But for the most part, I think it will be more 'designy' than 'cutesy'. Not sure if its a trend, or just my personal preference (not crazy about licensed characters). Peanuts/Snoopy would be so cute though, because they're SO classic!

@blackbird: where is that pink stuffed owl from? I love it! Baby girl's crib bedding has owls on it, so a stuffed one would be fun!

I agree that nurseries have gone more "designy", which can be good but also can go overboard. Our nursery is loosely themed around vintage childhood nostalgia. We actually have a few Peanuts things in the room as our son's name is Linus.
Our furniture and bedding is just neutrals and bright colours and then the accessories bring in the "theme". Try eBay for art. That's where we got our Peanuts stuff.
I found the stuff that is readily available in the UK to be really disappointing, so I just got creative. :)

Sorry I don't have any photos to share, but we have a nursery that's more character-themed. In our case, it's "cute friendly robots from pop culture." The crib bedding, changing pad cover and curtains aren't themed; I chose solid fabrics or simple patterns in the nursery colors (navy/lime green/pink). But we printed out high-res images of robots and framed them for the walls - C3PO and R2D2 from Star Wars, Bender and Baby Bender from Futurama, Tom Servo from MST3K. And we have an R2D2 rug from Pottery Barn Kids' Star Wars line.

Lo's nursery is cute :) It's a pig/flower theme.

I do agree that all the nurseries on the blogs seem very modern. I'm trying to figure out what to do for LO #2 (not pregnant, just a planner!) but I don't love the inspiration out there.

I plan mine to be like @blackbird 's - I kind of dislike super themed nurseries, even if it's certain colors. I guess if your whole house is coordinated like that? I just like it to all "go" without being too matchy matchy. I guess I'm more focused on other stuff, that's not really my "thing!" But I will admit that those really upscale, very adult, expensive nurseries you see in magazines or on shows sometimes make me drool a bit!

I lived abroad for the first 2 years of my son's life, and there wasn't the same choice in nursery bedding as in the US. We did plain stuff but he loved Winnie the Pooh, so i bought some repositionable stickers and put them on the armoire.

we have colors more than theme...we did the pottery barn madras and there are some alligator accents...but just a quilt and pillow sham. i'm not really into themes personally, but it is funny how many people asked me what theme i was doing for the nursery when themes seemed to go to the wayside?

I never liked character driven nurseries. Maybe Brair Rabbit inspired spaces that are more garden than cartoon anyway. I woukd call today's nurseries stylish. Sure some are serious and sophisticated, but there are also sweet, playful, whimsical, and colorful nurseries out there too.

I wanted something that would grow past the baby stage so we went with an accent wall in colors that weren't too baby. These pics are from before DS arrived so the crib is full of new clothes needing a wash and my hospital bag.

I hope we have a #2 - I want do an accent wall in different color/size stripes for the next one.

i've sort of caught myself getting a little too into the "design" aspect of the nursery and forgetting its for a little boy! ours is shades of white and gray with animal and sports aspects. when my husband wanted to add the sports stuff I was like "NO! you're ruining the beautiful pictures with your baseballs!" buttttt then I remembered its a room for our son to relax in and enjoy and it doesn't have to be photoshoot ready!

I do agree though that you might not know what LO will be in to and it would be expensive to have to switch out a whole theme of characters. so maybe balance the two, with cute little character accessories that can be swapped..think art, pillows, figures vs. painting it on the wall or making every piece of bedding coordinate with it?

I do love me some snoopy...it would be really cute to have a big stuffed snoopy in a glider or something like that. :) and a little woodstock somewhere too! agh!

@TheSwissWifeStyle: Seriously all you need is a to be able to sew a straight line for the sheets! There is really nothing to them! Plenty of free tutorials online and you can customize it to the size of your mattress. We also made our own changing pad covers that matches because I felt the minky from the fabric store was softer, better colors and it was way cheaper than purchasing them. Tutorials for them too :)

Ours is cute and fun, imo. It's sea life inspired with some cute canvas prints of fish and turtles, a fish mobile, a coral wall and her name on the wall. I think it's fun to do cute nurseries. Our bedroom is boring, hers shouldn't be!

I am the only one of my friends who doesn't have a "cute" themed nursery and everyone always asks what the theme is. I end up telling them colors, ha! I kind of ended up with owls everywhere b/c of my sorority, which I knew would happen, but I don't have decals or printed bedding and the like. I think I struck a good balance between kid friendly, yet still sophisticated enough that *I* like it.

@shopaholic: I really like that! It's beautiful!

I guess I'm just at a loss as to what to look for. Plus most of the websites are in French.

@anbanan15: I wish I could sew! I bought a sewing machine from Ikea but I have no idea how to use it! :( Maybe I should start practicing. I like the idea of being able to customize too!
