I did it until about 5 months then I decided I needed pedicure treats for the rest of my pregnancy. It was such a luxury!

I'm 36 weeks and just did my toes a couple of days ago. It's not the comfiest thing ever, but I'm not sure that DH would do a good job so I manage. I do have him take off the old polish, though.

I last did them myself at 33 weeks (2 weeks ago), but both the last 2 times I said would be my last. I seriously think it's time to pamper myself with getting a spa pedi!

I could still paint them, with moderate discomfort until about 25 weeks. Now, I don't have a chance. I've pretty much let them go the last few weeks, but I am planning on getting a pedicure sometime in the next couple of weeks. Even though they will be covered since it's still cold, I feel like having my toes look nice will make me feel better about looking like a huge glub-a-glub everywhere else.

At first I felt too sick to bend over to do them, and then I got too big to reach... I remember doing a token paint of them when I had to have a cervical swab done at the doctors but I did it blind as I couldn't see past my bump and I pretty much totally missed the nail and painted the skin around it, ha ha.

Just a silly question - I tend to paint my toenails every 2 weeks or so, I just always have. At 23 weeks it's starting to be pretty awkward! Thinking I need to start going in for pedicures instead!! (Oh, darn!)

How long did y'all make it on your own before handing over this task to someone else? ;)

I got pedicures through out both my pregnancies with no problem at all.
With the swelling in both my legs it was such a relief to have them massaged.
I've been pregnant twice in the past 10 years and I have to say things are a lot more "This is bad" than it was before. I'll do what my OB wants when we get pregnant again but I'm also going to use my own judgement. I don't give in to the whole "You can't do X Y Z" for everything though.

I had read about the possibility of pedicures (the massage portion) and contractions but had not yet asked my OB about it. From what I can tell, there is a pressure point on the back of the heel area that may bring on contractions when massaged the "right" way.

I don't know if I'll be able to stay away from pedicures this summer... also, as I get closer to November, I will want my toes to look pretty for when labor and delivery arrive!

I had a similar post this weekend because I got a pedicure AND a neck/shoulder massage. I asked my doctor about it yesterday and she said both are fine, but she did say if you get a pedicure in the 3rd trimester, just ask them to skip or alter the massage.

I got one during my 1st trimester before I knew I was pregnant and another one around 38 weeks. You can always ask them to skip the massage if you're worried about triggering labor. At 38 weeks I was happy for them to massage away, since the baby was technically full term, and I was ready for her to come out!
