I have DH apply it and avoid touching the spot while wet, if I accidentally touch it then I immediately wash my hands. We switched to the heartworm pill with added flea protection but we have stopped the topical medication for the time being. He's basically only unprotected from ticks. He has a short coat and he's not a real outdoor-loving dog so we are just going to check for ticks after he goes out. I am excited to share that I am about 5 weeks pregnant with our first child. </p> <p>BUT .... I really had no idea how much I would worry already about everything. Yesterday my dog was due for Advantix flea/tick topical preventative. I had my husband apply the medicine and I was careful not to touch the wet spots, but I have pet the dog on his head, etc. a bit since then. </p> <p>Now I am freaking out and wondering if it is safe to be around the dog at all since the medicine gets absorbed into his body and is effective for a full month. </p> <p>I don't go back to my ob for another week and a half so in the meantime, does anyone know anything about this? I plan on wearing rubber-coated gloves and a dust mask to minimize contact.</p> <p>Has anyone heard anything about this from their OB? I see my doctor on Thursday so I'll probably ask her, but it seems like anytime I ask about pregnancy DOs &amp; DON'Ts the doctors look at me like I'm being overly paranoid. </p>
