@Mrs. Jump Rope: I agree, I had to take antibiotics earlier in pregnancy and the choice is potentially harm the baby with medicine, or potentially harm the baby by getting super sick/transferring the infection/not being healthy enough to support baby. There's always a reason for meds, it's just good to know what the risks are.
@artbee: I agree with your choice!

@Rachel: LOL. Exactly--it's creepy that they can advertise for medications--no wonder more people are suing about side effects.
@jessiejo17: glad I;m not the only one :P

Ugh hate these! And I also hate the drug commercials like "Ask your doctor about ________"... don't you trust your doctor to know what kind of medicine is right for your particular ailment?? Doctors must hate their patients coming in and saying "well I saw this commercial on TV and I think you should give me this drug".

I understand for BCP - there are so many different kinds, and which one you choose is sort of up to personal preference (ring, UID, pill, etc), but the rest drive me up a wall!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: I agree with that, and I took many meds that I hated taking, but knowing how that specific med affected my body, I strongly felt it would be very harmful for my LO. It screws with your body, your appetite, your brain, etc. It's a crazy drug. In this situation, there are other meds that have to be safer than that.

@artbee: Sometimes, the benefits outweigh the risks. I was taken off my inhaler (by my primary) after I got pregnant, but my asthma was so out of control. My OB yelled at me, and told me that if I can't breath, then baby can't breathe -- and if I need my inhaler, I better not hesitate to use it. Pregnancy made asthma worse for me, and it didn't get better after I delivered. Today I take Advair and Singular as controllers, which finally helps.

@pastemoo: its a class c drug so they don't know much. My doctor told me to decrease my dose when ttc, not get off of it completely. But that sounded crazy to me so I got off of it anyway and found another doctor.

@artbee: Doesn't it have big warnings on it, too? They took me off all my migraine meds when I got pregnant.

I always watch the one about topamax because I used to take it, and it says if you took it while pregnant and now all these things are wrong with your LO, call this number.

Topamax does awful things to you and has such bad side effects. I think it's pretty obvious you shouldn't take it while pregnant.

Just got so mad at the TV--there was a commercial saying "if you got injured by internal bleeding while on this bloodthinner, we can sue for you." IF you are taking a blood thinner, you better take your darned blood tests and be fully aware of the risks and benefits. DON'T YOU DARE say you didn't know your blood thinner might thin your blood. THAT'S WHAT IT DOES!

Seriously?

I yelled at the TV and my husband just started laughing and laughing and said "and this is why I love you."
:P

TV commercials can just be so ridiculous!
