E was a terrible eater right from the start! Now, at almost 3, she only eats a handful of foods and only when *she* chooses to eat them. :meh:

She started picky, ate better around a year, worse for a while from maybe 15-18 mo, then better again. At 2 she is a good eater (for a kid) but I expect there will be more ups and downs.

Around 16 months. I remember at his 12 month appt, the pedi said "He will probably eat more now than he will at 18 months" and I thought she was joking. But nope, 18 months rolled around and he was existing off two bites of yogurt and some crackers every day.

DD has always eaten everything, but she has gotten a little more unpredictable starting around... 16 months, maybe? I think it's more her exerting control over her decisions rather than disliking the food, though. We'll see how long til that part starts...

LO1 was picky from the very beginning but got significantly worse after a year and a half to two years. Prior to that we could distract him and get him to eat different things but once he became more aware and only fed himself it became really really hard.
LO2 will usually at least try anything. He's always been a good eater and I hope it continues! He is just about 2.

It's been gradual. At 2.5, I think she probably still eats well compared to most other kids her age, but it seems like she is always "losing" things that she will eat. Like last night, she wouldn't eat meat sauce with her pasta (previously, she loved it). We just keep offering though and sometimes she starts eating things again.

I mean he would always not finish everything I gave him but I think at 3 (when he started really talking a lot), he finally said he didn't want ANYTHING I gave him and wanted something else. Also refused to try new things.

DD1 just turned 4, and she has gotten significantly pickier in the last 3-4 months. When she was younger she might be particular on a certain day (e.g., maybe she just didn't feel like pasta one day), but generally would eat most things. She is still pretty good for a preschooler, but has gotten more vocal about not liking things that she used to eat just fine. Honestly, I think some of it is social learning....like most of her classmates don't like X, so she says she doesn't like X either.

DD2 (17m) has always been pickier than DD1 ever was.

I grew up a very picky eater (especially re: textures), so I've always been waiting for the other shoe to drop with DD1 :)

Gah, I struggle with food and my son...he was a great eater until 18 months and it all went to crap, I don't know why.

He has a very limited diet and I've been doing some reading and found that it seems the best time to try a new food is at breakfast time and you may have to offer it 10 times before they accept it.

I've tried everything, including the new food before the accepted food, but my son realized that there was something else coming after the first attempt and that game was over.

Why is eating so stressful!

@MsLipGloss: I had luck with the gerber carrot pickups too. I bought them because the pedi's handout said something about not making carrots at home, although I've read it's actually ok. Anyway I just put a few in her mouth for her and then she started picking them up and eating them...although she LOVES the puffs and will just eat a little bit of carrots...

DD is 14 months and we still go through this at times. And she's been switching up what she'll actually eat which makes it even more frustrating. She used to LOVE beans and blueberries. Now they're thrown on the floor in disgust. She'll eat pasta for dinner but won't eat it for lunch at daycare. Wtf? It's really hard not to take it personally when you put such effort into preparing the food.

@cranberryapple: oye! That's so frustrating! We learned that if she sees us sprinkle lemon/lime juice on the veggies, she'll eat them up. And whenever she would only go for fruit, we stopped offering it to her until she got back on track with the veggies. Oh, and those fruit/veggie pouches were a lifesaver(no matter how much I despised them). At least I knew she would get some sort of veggie intake.
