@winter_wonder: I started to get it after my toddler had it and I immediately put one drop in my eye( not recommended but I used my lo drops) and then again in the morning and it stopped it from progressing. The drops were a category C but I only used 2 drops otherwise definitely would've gotten the other drops that are a Category. B and safer for pregnant women.

I"m 38 weeks too and had pink eye like 2 weeks ago. My daughter had it and had the antibiotic drops and then I had a cold...and started getting the goopy eye as well. I went to see DR and they gave me antibiotic drops, even though they were on the "C" list of medication meaning could be dangerous, weigh benefits/risks...I wasn't sure I wanted to take them so I just got some lubricating eye drops, did lots of washing, no eye make up etc....and luckily it cleared up on it's own. I asked if there was any eye drops they could give that were not "C" list and the DR said no...but I read that's not true online.

Anyone else get pink eye while pregnant? Did you have eye drops and an antibiotic? I'm 38 weeks and think I have possible pink eye. Goopy, watery left eye :bummed:

I'm also fighting a cold at the moment so I thought the watery eye might be from that, but my eye does look a bit irritated and red...

I see a trip to urgent care in my future!

I was so surprised when I heard breastmilk in the eye - seems like milk would cause more bacteria to grow - but it works really well to clear it up.

I haven't had pinkeye, but recently I had a scratch in my eye that was infected. The doctor said that Rx eye drops are safe because they aren't absorbed into the bloodstream the same way as other antibiotics.

I used a dropper with breastmilk the last time P had pink eye. Works great! You could do it as preventative measures too! It's very rare any of us use antibiotics.

I went to the doctor yesterday for pink eye and doctor was all set to prescribe me some drops. But after I mentioned that I was breastfeeding, he said that he didn't feel they would be safe to use and that I should just wait for it to clear up on it's own.

Looking at kellymom and a couple other sites, there were several antibiotics used to treat pink eye listed in the low risk category. Have any of you ever used prescription drops while nursing?

I have a feeling that my daughter is bound to get it now; this would be the second time in a month! And I hate being at work with a nasty looking eye, especially if might still be contagious.

@mrs. wagon: I know what you mean. LO has actually had that from birth, he had a tear duct issue that finally started getting better more recently so he's always had eye gunk. He's the same way, he also hates having his eyes cleaned.

@Mrs. Jacks: Ah, that's really good to know. I hope one way or another it clears up quickly because we are supposed to take 1 year pictures this week. I've been super diligent about washing my hands and his, but I hope I don't get it, too...especially not this week, lol.

@Boogs: Well, pink eye most of the time is a virus. People often prescribe an antibacterial for it (polymyxin), but don't be surprised if it just clears up rapidly on its own. The drops won't really hurt anything, but it's probably unnecessary use of an antibiotic. But I think it makes us moms feel better that we're doing something ;) (and I would make the squinty wink eye pink if I could!)

Ugh. It went around RJ's preschool but he didn't catch it! But he does get lots of gunky discharge when he's congested because his bottom lashes stick into his eyes and irritate them easily. We use a clean cloth soaked in warm water and go at it. he HATES it. Usually if it's not too bad I'll wait til bathtime since that gets rid of it all too. Sometimes he literally has dried up gunky stuff hanging on the ends of his lashes and they move as he blinks. one of those things that's SO gross but funny.

@Mrs. Jacks: I have no clue. I just know who he got it from and they don't know how the person they got it from got it. Maybe they gave it because of the yellow/green discharge he has? Is it not the typical medication for pink eye?

Warm compresses to the affected eye, lots of good handwashing. Antibiotic drops and oral antibiotics don't help unless it's bacterial (which it rarely is). Tincture of time also helps! Hang in there!
