@GreenThumb: I was worried my doctor actually UNDER-reacted! She said this is really early to even say that's what I have and it's likely to resolve and not to worry about it at all right now (i.e. no pelvic rest or anything). But I guess it's a good thing to have a doctor who keeps things in perspective cuz otherwise I'd be flying off the rails constantly.

I just found out at 18 weeks that I have a previa as well and was also put on pelvic rest and told to report any bleeding (haven't had any so far). They will just monitor it for now and see if it resolves. I did read a study online that said 84% of complete previas resolve and an even higher percentage of partial previas resolve, so I figure that's a good sign!

I found out at my 20 week u/s that I had complete previa. I was basically told to prepare for a C-section. I had an u/s about every 4 weeks and by 36 weeks it had resolved enough that I was cleared for a vaginal birth. I didn't ever have any bleeding, but they warned me to be on the look out for it. I was on pelvic rest as well as limited in the amount that I could exercise. Hoping it resolves for you and you don't have any additional issues!

Thanks everyone! I heard from my doctor and she said since it's still early, no need to change anything (didn't mention anything about pelvic rest) and most cases resolve themselves, so not to worry at this point. Will try to put it out of my mind for now, and at least if I see any more bleeding, I know what might be the cause.

I was told I had it with baby #3. I recall they mentioned it at my 12 week appt and again at my anatomy scan. I got another ultrasound around 32 weeks and by then it had resolved. My OB said 2cm clearance was needed? I don't know how "bad" it was to begin with though.

I was diagnosed with a complete placenta previa @16 weeks after my second pretty substantial bleed. I was placed on modified bedrest, pelvic rest, and I've been on a medical leave from work (I teach). I take progesterone since the bleeding puts you at risk for preterm labor.

My placenta started to move @ 28 weeks. First it moved to a marginal previa, and at @31 weeks it became a low-lying previa. I'm 34 weeks now and I believe my placenta is @2.5 cm from my cervix. My next appointment at 36 weeks will determine whether I'll schedule a c-section or be cleared for a vaginal birth.

I know it's scary, especially when you read the Internet about the condition. Most previas do resolve themselves, although complete previas are less likely to move.

I've just try to take everything as it comes and pray for a healthy baby (as close to full term as possible)! Good luck!

I had complete placenta previa that did not resolve. It was diagnosed at 17 weeks and I had frequent appointments and ultrasounds after that. I had 2 bleeding episodes and I was put on hospital bed rest for a few days at 35 weeks after the second time. My drs decided it was too risky to continue with my pregnancy and LO was born by RCS at 36 weeks. I didn't need a hysterectomy or blood transfusion but the OR had several units on hand.

@Goldengirl: I never did get a super heavy heavy bleed like I've heard some women have. What prompted the ultrasound/diagnosis was bleeding like a super light period for a couple of days. I found that if I had a day when I was on my feet a lot, I would bleed a little on those days, too. If that happened, my OB recommended I make it a point to rest a little more.

@magnoliamama42: Thank you! I will ask my doc about the pelvic rest (although TBH haven't been interested in sex at all with all the spotting and anxiety so won't be much change :silly: ) I do hope it goes away... I've had light spotting the whole pregnancy but the idea of a sudden really heavy bleed doesn't sound fun.

I was diagnosed with previa at around 16 weeks. I'd had some breakthrough bleeding. I was told to do pelvic rest (no sex), but no need for bed rest. It resolved itself about 6-8 weeks later.

Because of the previa, and because I had HG, our OB had us do ultrasounds every 2-3 weeks, so that was a bonus!

Don't let it scare you! It's pretty common.

I just had an ultrasound to again check on some spotting/cramping I've been having. Baby looked great (yay!) but the preliminary report I was given says placenta appears previa. I haven't been able to speak to my doctor yet, prob won't till next week, so I don't know if it's complete or partial or what the status is. But I was wondering, for those who also received this diagnosis, did yours resolve itself? Most cases I've read have been diagnosed quite a bit later, after heavier bleeds, or the 20 weeks ultrasound (I am just shy of 14 wks)... so I don't know what it means to find it earlier. Hoping it will resolve itself because of course, I've now turned to Google, who has scared me.

Appreciate any experiences you can share if you've been through it! Thanks!

I did it. The pills helped while I took them but I had a small placenta or something because I didn't get too many pills. Once they ran out I got PPD and PPA and a few months later lost a lot of hair. But I had a really difficult newborn and months of sleep deprivation so I think I had the odds against me. Would do it again.

I'm not sure which side my placenta is on, but I can tell you that we got a potty shot at 12 weeks that very clearly showed something there but the tech said all babies have a "nub" between their legs at 12 weeks. A few weeks later it was gone and we found out we are having a girl. So definitely don't rely on the potty shot at this point!

I researched this to pieces before I knew gender for sure, and my ultrasound tech verified that my placenta was right posterior, so I felt odds were pretty good we were having a boy. We are having a girl:). So I totally do not believe in it any more than any other old wives tale.

The "study" that gives all the data isn't a verified study, and is not peer-reviewed. It's not backed by any type of sound medical organization. It's on a random website, put there by "Dr" Ramzi ( who is not an MD), and you or I could pretty much stick any thing we want on that same site and claim that it happened.

I wondered why more people didn't rely on this bc it seemed to have so much data, but we don't even know if any of it ever took place, and if it did, how controlled and professional the clinical details were. It is not listed on any valid medical site that allows you to view "real" studies.

I don't know. With LO1, it was on right and a boy, and it's on the right this time, but the tech said it was on the right because I ovulated from my right ovary. Not sure, though. But your poll options aren't correct (3rd one).

So I just had my 12 week NT scan. The Tech was able to get a potty shot (not a great nub shot) and it looked like we saw something there--so she said we had a good chance we will have a boy.
But I've done some research and potty shots are not a great method to determine gender this early. But I did find out that the where your placenta is is a great predictor of gender (97%).
Right=boy
Left=girl
Our placenta is on the right, so it looks like we are having a boy.
