We haven't pushed any formal training yet but DD is slowly starting to get it on her own. She'll even ask to pee in the potty when we are out of the house now. We're going to do one final push in a few months before baby #2 arrives.

DD is just shy of 29m and we've sort of started. When DD asks to sit on the potty we will put here there but have yet to have any successes at home. Yesterday she started in a new room at daycare where they will work on PT more and she actually had 2 successes so we are hopeful that it will come when she is ready. I'm due in about 2 1/2 weeks so we aren't pushing her too much at the moment; we'll probably focus more when she is closer to 3 if she hasn't gotten it figured out by then.

We've practiced sitting on the potty around 15 or 16 months, no pressure. Weirdly, he would poop but not usually pee. Sometimes he doesn't want to sit there at all.

But my maternity leave starts in two weeks so I am thinking about going whole hog then. My toddler is now 20 months old. I figure it's worth a try although when the new baby comes in October it's possible we'll have some regression.

We have been sitting on the potty since about 9 months old. At 15 months old we really started on training more vigorously. He potties at least once a day if not twice. Daycare lets him sit on the potty and he runs around naked most of the day. But he hasn't had success there. He is really interested in the training pants and underwear and likes to try putting on his clothes.

We haven't started yet but we're in the same situation...LO is 14 months and will be 20 months when Baby Two is born. I'm definitely getting signals that he is ready but am not sure when to go all in and just start. I'll be following the thread. :)

Not until DS turned 3 and he still wasn't ready. Now he is 3 years 10 months and is completely pee trained but still not poo trained. He has been pee trained for 3 months but still has issues going poo on the potty. His pedi says it's common for boys to have issues using the potty for poo and not to push it. So as of now he still poos his undies. We keep it positive and I am hoping soon he will use the potty to poo.

@Mrs. High Heels: Lol, sorry! It was totally doable, I just think it would have easier if we had waited for a few extra months. Actually, we're hoping to space DS and #3 out so that the next one won't be born until DS is fully autonomous in the bathroom, due to past experiences. Transitioning to 2 kids is tough sometimes, and I think this is one area where we could've made it a little easier on ourselves.

We did EC with DD (as you know, lol), and switched to training pants at 15 months. She was really good about pees, but I had to clean up A LOT of poop accidents. Ugh. anyway, we made the final push to fully trained at 18 months, and she's been fine since! DD was also 20 months when DS was born.

If I had to do it over again, I would've waited until after DS was born to do the final push. Here's why: Although DD was fully potty trained at 18 months, she didn't really have the dexterity to use the bathroom by herself until about 24 months. So for 6 months I had to take her to the bathroom, help her take off her underwear/clothes, wipe her, help her put on her underwear/clothes, help her wash her hands, etc... Also, she couldn't hold it longer than about 2 minutes until she was... 23/24 months. So, when DS was a tiny newborn and needed me the most, I would have to drop everything (including whatever I was doing with him) and help DD as soon as she said the word "potty." I can't tell you how much of those early days I had a screaming (hungry, tired, or grumpy) newborn in one arm and tried to undress/redress a squirming toddler in the other. Lol, it wasn't THAT awful, but in hindsight, I would have waited until DD was 24 months and could do it all by herself. It would have made the transition quite a bit easier, I think!

We did EC until DD was about 13 months & would not longer sit on the potty (before that we had catches for almost every poop & a couple pees/day on average). She is 16 months now & I am going to have a DS around Christmas when she is 20 months, I want to begin before, but part of me is thinking it can't be done & to wait until after! ah!

When did you start potty training/learning? Did it work for your LO? For you? Tips?

We started potty training him (he's 2 years old) and we keep it low pressure too. We'll ask him if he needs to potty and he'll say yes. But when we put him on the toilet, he says no! ARG. I don't know what he's trying to tell us! I don't force him though. He's pee'd a few times in the potty already so I figure he's just taking his time.

My babe (almost 19 mos) is not potty trained yet, but he knows what it's about. One thing I think has really helped is talking up the potty a lot. Or letting him come in when we go and telling him that we use the potty and we don't wear diapers, and when he uses the potty he can stop wearing diapers too.

We keep it low pressure but let him sit on it whenever he's open to the idea and that's where he can read his potty book which he loves (potty, by leslie patricelli). He has started saying poo poo and letting us know when he needs to go. For some odd reason, he has pooped in the potty a bunch of times but only peed in there once or twice. I'm not complaining though!!

My son is now 15 months old. He tugs at his diapers when he is wet. I would lik to start potty learning him. I want him to ask to go to the bathroom and go on the potty occasionally. I expect to keep him in diapers for a while longer still.

I would like some tips and ideas on how to get him to be successful on the potty. For example, right now we put him on 2 -3 times a day (before and after daycare) but he has only gone twice in the last month. How can we encourage him to go?

Is there something we can boot camp on the weekend (I understand it is early and am not looking for out of diapers in that weekend just more success)?

How should I coordinate with daycare?
