@regberadaisy: so glad you posted that - I was just sitting here getting mopey as usual about baby fever (happens at least once a day). I needed someone to yell some sense back into me! Back to work!

Mom of two here.
Go on lots of date nights outside of the house. Seriously, put on a fancy dress, put makeup on, get some killer heels on those feet and go out!
Go to a movie, at the theatre!
Go on a impromptu weekend trip
Go to sleep naked (haha)

The first time around, my bucket list was:
- Eat healthier and start working out (I ended up losing a bunch of weight too).
- Be at full time job for at least one year
- Buy a house
- Take one last amazing vacation with just me and DH (we ended up doing 2 weeks in Hawaii)

Pre-TTC #2, our list was:
- Wait until LO was sleeping through the night for at least one year so we could work off our sleep deficit from her newborn days.

Lol how things change.

@Ms. Jellen: I would never make fun of that! My best friend and I were making lists of things we want to do, and hers included serious things about her parents, life dreams, etc, and then she added "go to a strip club" and "go to a Katy Perry concert" so I get it! haha Those things are just as important!

Mine:

-Take a big trip (to Asia?) but I'm okay with it turning into a baby moon if we end up getting pregnant before we have the chance to go! :silly:

-I just got a promotion at work, and I'm relieved about the timing because I think it would have been more difficult to try to get it after I got pregnant or had a baby.

-The other big thing is to clean out stuff around the house and get it ready.

DD was a surprise pregnancy about a year into our engagement (save the dates were actually just dropped off to be mailed earlier the day we found out hahha) so I never got to think of a bucket list. I do have one for before baby 2 though..
1. Buy a house
2. Date nights as a married couple without me being pregnant during them
3. Coachella (don't make fun! Move never been and we said we would go after we got married and never got to. We have tickets for next year though!
4. DD on his way to being potty trained

So it looks like maybe next year after coachella. DH is already talking about baby 2 though hahah

Pre-TTC, I got married, bought a house, lost 100 pounds, traveled to Africa, got a job with a salary boost and FMLA coverage, and saved $20K in my personal account. Took about 2.5 years after getting engaged. Now that I'm pregnant my list consists of cleaning out the house and enjoying lots of fine dining!

After I got married (sort of pre-TTC) your number 5 was on my list. I was determined to bring more money in the household and worked really hard to earn a raise/promotion. Being responsible for someone else created a focus in me that I hadn't had before.

I liked doing things we definitely wouldn't have been able to do last minute with a babu at home. For me going to see Dave Chapelle in Miami (about a hour from home) and staying at a swanky boutique hotel that night was super exciting!

Hi Bees,

Do you have baby fever? I do! I recently wrote the post 'Baby Fever' and the responses really helped me to feel less crazy/obsessive and get on with my life. So thanks ladies!

In that spirit, I want to post my pre-TTC bucket list. What do you think? Do you have one? If so, please share! :)

1. Continue wedding planning and get married! next June!
2. Establish a household budget with DH-to-be
3. Establish a sustainable fitness routine
4. Rid the house of extra stuff - clean out wardrobe and closets
5. Kick butt at work!
6. Lots of camping with DH-to-be
7. Trek around Europe with mom, who currently lives there
8. Roadtrip around home and potentially across country
9. Visit one new "big" place, like Australia or Asia

Lots to do, huh?

@Mrs. Blush: We decided to TTC because we were 30 and I had just taken the Bar Exam so that was out of the way. I guess we just felt like it was the right time to start trying. (DH and I had been friends for about 4 years before we even started dating so I guess we were on quicker about TTC). But I never really felt like there was this time before TTC and after TTC. It was more like pre-baby and post-baby.

There was a point where we weren't sure if we could have a baby and I remember DH telling me "You know, even if we never had a kid, I'd still be perfectly happy. I love our life now - I don't feel like this is some lesser version." I loved that he said that and it really made me feel like we were right for each other and living a fulfilling life anyway.

Before our son arrived we went to Hawaii twice, did several weekends in Napa Valley, and just went out on a lot of dates. There was about a year of recovery from my surgery during which we just hung out at home a lot and had a lot of homemade dates. Oyster platters and champagne on a weeknight, eating warm cookies and watching hockey games, going on long drives, etc. We just liked (and still like) hanging out with each other.

@Mrs. Blush: Welcome! I totally understand where you are coming from! I have the fever too. DH just "isn't ready" which makes it so hard! Everything else is lined up. I have no time table either! Argh! I totally wish for accidents too.

What helps me is working out. I've started a get-my-body-ready-for-baby fitness routine. It includes just eating healthier in general, exercising (getting those abs strong to push!), and taking vitamins. Also I am trying to focus on hobbies that I won't be able to explore much when we have LOs. That helps a little, but nothing really makes it go away, unfortunately. I definitely want to set up a babymoon too!

For your situation, since you're getting married, I would focus on the dress! You want to look awesome and not rocking a baby bump when you say your vows (or at least that's how I would feel). Plus you probably want to spend some married time together before LOs. We'll all get through it one way or another!

I know how you feel. I've been reading birth stories for over a year, I have read about pregnancy, looked into doula services in my city as well as med-free birth classes. I have a list of books to read once I do get pregnant (I didn't want to jinx it by getting to ahead of myself).... Saying I have baby fever is putting it mildly.

To help get me through the wait, I made a list of things I wanted to finish before baby. Our main reason was because we had a lot of house projects to do. So last year, I made a list by month, listing what we would do each month in order to finish ASAP. I also have a personal list of things to finish but it's less important (scrapbooks mostly). Keeping busy helped me a lot though.

I am now one month away from TTC. The night my husband told me we should start trying next month I barely slept from excitement.

@Mrs. Blush: Welcome! and to answer your question we waited 2 years before TTC. I just tried to keep busy and have something to look forward to each month even if it was just a really good movie coming to theaters. It helped the time pass faster. The other thing I really enjoyed doing before TTC was renovating our home. Mostly minor stuff - Painting rooms, putting in new tile floors, etc. Once your pregnant everyone tells you "you cant do that, your pregnant" ("that" being climb ladders, put together Ikea furniture, painting, etc)

@Synchronicity: Trying not to wish the time away is so hard! Thanks for your encouragement :) Do you think something specific caused you to shift your position on TTC? Or just now that it's here it feels differently to you?

@Alivoo01: A weekly date like bowling sounds awesome - I may actually look into bowling since we both like it too. Great idea, thanks!

@JH524: hahaha thank you!!! I feel ready! As for exercise, my fiance and I are racing to see who can log 100 miles first, hoping that will whip me into good shape!

@Gingerbebe: Wow - thanks so much for your story. It's really comforting to know that even though I'm not getting what I want right this minute, I'm going to be grateful for this time. You have an amazing attitude and it sounds like you've been on quite a journey. Did you and your husband talk about TTC before/right after you got married? What was your favorite thing you did in those 6 months between marriage and TTC?

Actually that's a good question for anyone reading this: what's your favorite thing you did with your SO before TTC?

Welcome to HB! I feel like your intro post was me when I first got here... wedding planning, but really just baby planning :P I've had the fever on and off for a whiiiile now, but at the moment I've really cooled off (and poor DH is ready and willing). The reality for us is that we are in a good spot to TTC at any time, and I just can't bite the bullet! Hard to believe since I've had the baby rabies for a couple of years now.

Anyway, the whole waiting thing can really suck, but do your best to have a blast with your fiance, enjoy wedding planning, and try not to wish the time away!

Well, I would just say enjoy the present and the season of life you are in and not let your vision for the future be what you're focus is on. That time you have has husband and wife without kids is precious - like it wont come back around for a really long time! So I would really soak it up, kinda like how people tell you to soak up that first year with your baby. It goes so fast and its so fun.

My husband and I started TTC 6 months after we got married and with a bunch of health issues, it took us 3 years to have our son. Looking back, we are so grateful for those 3 years we had before our son was born. I just have this huge sense of gratitude for the years we could just be best friends living out our random adventures. We were trying for most of that time, minus the months I was recovering from MCs or brain surgery, but we also just kept working on our relationship and bonding and spending time with each other as much as we could because we knew that had to be rock solid for a family to work.

Having a baby is totally consuming. Unless you have childcare, its hard to get out on regular dates and some days you can barely get a chance to talk to each other before falling asleep to a dirty house and an exhausted mess. Is it worth it? Of course. And our son, despite being a terrorist infant for the first 4 months of his life, is still our favorite little guy. But there are some days when I just miss being able to take spontaneous trips or doing dumb stuff together. We agree that season is over (at least until the kids are out of the house), but we also don't feel like we missed out on anything of being just the 2 of us.

So I say be excited for your baby and have fun TTC but also really love on your husband and enjoy wedding planning and just all of THIS that you have right in front of you because you'll never have this time again!
